First of all Thank u unlockr for this great information.
I followed all the steps one by one and successfully manage to root my HTC mytouch 3G Fender phone.

The issue is after this root, I am unable to hear voice while calling. But as I connect earphones I am able to hear the voice. Please tell me what should I do, so I can hear the voice without earphones.

I have done this process atleast 5 times. Everything works great and goes smooth until you power off or lock the display, then the display goes grainy. You can't get it back unless you reboot. Even then, once the display locks, it does it again. I have the original mytouch 3g. -x-

Hi

Update for those Vodafone Portugal 32A Magic frustrated readers. I finally got Android 2.2.1 installed using the instructions on http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Magic_(32A):_Rooting_(6.35.x_radio).
Not quite as idiotproof in instructions but effective if you follow it carefully.
My general feeling from reading the comments here are - If you don't understand how to change directory in a DOS (terminal) window then you probably shouldn't be attempting to root your phone.

Hi Unlockr,
Many thanks for the wonderfully detailed instructions. I still have a problem though.
I've followed the instructions here to the letter, made 2 Goldcards but still when I try the sappimg update in step 9 I still get "Main Version is older"

Vodafone Portugal 32A
HBoot 1.76.0009
Radio 6.35.08.29

I have rooted the phone using the Super 1 Click method. Do I really need to return to cupcake to load other ROMs?

I had the same thing with my 32B device.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4314039&postcount=1
And do what it says under "Revert to 32B Radio and ROM"
