mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2[space]/dev/block/mtdblock3[space]/system, for sure.
If you forget the space between yaffs2 and /dev, you will have this message error &quot;cannot create su: read-only file system&quot;.

It&#039;s a little bit silly, but it was the case for me. (I can&#039;t tell you how much time it took me, it&#039;s a shame).
And I became root with my HTC Dream, do you believe it ?
