How To: Install Google Navigation on Your Donut Phone
November 13, 2009 in Featured
!NO NEED TO DO THIS PROCEDURE!
GOOGLE HAS RELEASED NAVIGATION FOR ALL DONUT PHONES, GOTO THE MARKET AND SEARCH FOR IT THEN JUST CLICK INSTALL!
Want the new Google Navigation app on your phone? Here you go.
Thanks XDA-Developers Community!
Thanks Theomajigga!
Thanks Eric!
I. Before you begin (READ THIS)
1. You MUST have rooted your phone and have a custom recovery image and custom ROM.
2. You MUST have a custom ROM based on Donut! So no 1.5 based ROMs!
II. Install Google Navigation
1. Download this file:
Thanks Joshua for the Mirror Links!
2. Rename the file to update.zip (make sure it isn’t accidentally named update.zip.zip)
3. Save the file to your SD card NOT in any folders, just on the SD card itself.
4. Turn off the phone.
5. Turn the phone back on by holding down home and power to get to recovery mode.
6. Select Apply Update and wait for it to finish.
7. Reboot the phone by holding down home and power.
8. Goto Settings on the Phone, then Applications, then Manage Applications
9. Click on Maps then click Clear Data.
10. Click on Market next, and click clear Data
11. Goto Settings >Date & Time
12. Uncheck Automatic and set the time to 11:59pm
13. Hit Home then do NOT PUSH ANYTHING until the time gets to 12:01am
14. Then goto Settings >Date & Time.
15. Check Automatic back on.
16. Go into the Market and download Google Voice (if you already have it, uninstall it then reinstall it from the Market).
17. Turn the phone off.
18. Turn it back on into recovery mode by holding down Home and Power
19. Click clear Dalvik cache (if it is there, if not ignore this step).
20. Click reboot.
III. Change Your Prop Files Back
1. Download the .zip file and unzip it to your computer.
Thanks Eric!
2. Once the contents are unzipped, take the build.trout.prop and then build.sapphire.prop files and save them to the root of your SD card (not in any folder on your SD card).
3. Download Terminal from the Market if you don’t already have it and open it.
4. Type the following, hitting enter at the end of each line:
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cp /sdcard/build.trout.prop /system
cp /sdcard/build.sapphire.prop /system
reboot
5. After your phone reboots you are all set! Open the app and give it a whirl!

I have the same problem as cris.

NM answered my/cris’ question. They updated the app. No need to this. I have to go back and fix it now though

I get the same error as cris. Tried downloading it several times over the past two days.

Dizzy49,
This procedure is obsolete now. Just goto the Market and download the navigation program on your Donut phone (if you have an HTC Hero on 1.5, you will have to wait until HTC releases the 1.6 update).

i have a g1 with cyanogen 4.2.6

Hello Kyle2Blue,
Its unnecessary anyway, read the bold writing at the top.
Just download the actual program from the Market, Google released it.

you still need the build.props.. to be able to run this.. off market.. it only detects the builds.

Well since most people who have rooted their phone are still unable to install the new version of Google Maps on to their phone, maybe this How-To should be updated to help us out.
I have a G1 with 1.6 rooted. No other ROM, just rooted 1.6
kyle2blue said on December 2, 2009
I tried,
it keeps saying installation unsuccessful.

i updated from market with ease… yet i did do the steps i posted above b4 hand..
the signing for the build.probs are key cause thats what tricks your phone into thinkin u are running a droid….with android 2.0…
so im not sure what else to do since i havent had that prob.. i just recommend goin this route then upgranding map in market.. thats just my opinion.. to each his own tho!

greg said on December 22, 2009
what should i do??
JC said on January 8, 2010
3.3.1 will not install to rooted phones. The ‘Package file was not signed correctly’ message prohibits the installation after download. Can anyone from the unlockr help out with this? Thanks!!!
