Nexus One Price Revealed, Exactly What We Expected It To Be

So Gizmodo got information regarding the price of the Nexus One Google phone.

Seem to be almost exactly what we thought it would be; $530 without a contract (unsubsidized in other words) and $180 with a 2 year T-Mobile contract.

Other news regarding the Nexus One:

  • You MUST choose the $39.99 Even More Plan with Unlimited Text and Unlimited Data plan for $79.99/month in total (this is also mandatory for existing customers too apparently)
  • You can only buy 5 Nexus One Google Phones per Google account (sounds familiar, ehem, iPhone)
  • You can buy the phone when it comes out at Google.com/phone
  • You agree not to ship the phone overseas when you purchase it AND if you cancel the contract on a subsidized device under 120 days you have to pay the difference of the price between no contract and contract price ($350). This is all obviously to stop black market sales just like the iPhone even still goes through to this day. And I’d say that last one sure fixes buying the phone with contract, selling it then cancelling:
    • Which if they wouldn’t have done this would have meant you could have gotten the phone for $460 without a contract: $180 (initial cost) + $80 (first months bill if they required you to pay it) + $200 (cancellation fee). Smart of Google.

So now that the price is also very typical HTC, anyone change their opinion on this phone? Still a nice phone in my opinion, just got hyped a bit too much I think, you?

  1. Exactly what you expected to cost..lol

    Damn u’r good unlockr…

I am just going to wait for the HTC Bravo since that phone is worth $600 unlocked…

    1. Y314K,

      Ha, thank you thank you.
Ya, I agree, or even the X10? What do you think about the X10 if it was say $600 unlocked and had T-Mobile 3G (even though my official guess for the Sony would be between $700 and $800, lets see. But for comparison sake if it WAS $600)? I kinda like the UI and don’t like vanilla Android nowadays (spoiled by Sense UI, but would like to see what Sony did with it too).

  2. I’m deadset on Sense UI which means no X10 for me despite the great camera it seems to have. More importantly I want to stick to VZW and like Y314K, i’ll wait it out for the Bravo on VZW. HTC all the way.

  3. TheUnlockr: I really like the cam on the X10… But for one reason or another the UI on the X10 looks to avatar smurf for me… I use to call it to hollywood blue… But avatar smurf seems better now..lol

Actually the vanilla setup on the Nexus One grew on me and the 5 desktops & moving wallpaper looked awesome to me… But not at that price… I don’t think the X10 will get updated soon enough so, it’s not even on my radar of Android phones..

I’ve been a HTC Rosie fan since last summer… That’s what really got me hooked on Android & HTC… Although I don’t like the leaked HTC Espresso rom changes I’ve seen lately…

Guess, right now I am just left with the HTC Bravo to follow… Not sure how many more month’s I am going to have to wait to go Android…

Next time I’ll just ask you about the rumors I’m reading on other sites & save my self months of reading while speculations…lol

  4. unlockr ,
Can i just say “f” tmobile and google and keep the phone ? That’s all I want to do . I don’t wanna sell it or anything I just want to put it on another account .

  5. Shonan: If you pay the full price for it $540 for it, then I think you can do what ever you want with it… Except ship it out of the states…

or if you buy it subsidized.. “subsidized device under 120 days you have to pay the difference of the price between no contract and contract price ($350)”

I think I’ll be importing a HTC Bravo from Canada or Europe.. So, there we go…lol

  6. Shonan: Then google kills you first born..lol

“• If you cancel your plan before 120 days, you have to pay the subsidy difference between what you paid and the unsubsidized price, so $350 in this case. Or you can return the phone to Google. You also authorize them to charge this directly to your credit card.”

Since u’ll probably be paying thru goole check out… They will just auto charge u’r card for the phone… Maybe if you use a temp PayPal card number you might be able to get away with it.. no idea..

  7. My options are:

    A) Stay with Sprint and Treo 755p with no contract
    B) Move to Nexus
    C) Wait till more X10 (which looks very nice) information is available, who the carrier is, what the price is, what features it has are
    D) Wait for iPhone 4 GSX
    E) Wait for true Jesus Phone to appear, complete with water to wine app.

I’m current at B with a strong dose of C. It maybe C until CES comes and goes and then B.

Some of it will depend on my company’s corporate discount with T-Mobile. The Sprint company discount comes down to Everything Data 450 for me with mobile to mobile free for $49.99 per month. A similar discount would have me on T Mobile at $60 dollars a month, which is acceptable.

And of course Google’s/T-Mobile’s return policy.

  8. I’ve gotta get the phone . Bottom line . I’m tired of Winmo and wanna go back to Android ! And this phone is the one for me man 3g n everything !

  9. Hey Guys,

Have been hearing a lot of android device news lately and pretty confused as well. So is the leaked Google Nexus One the same phone as the rumoured HTC Bravo?

    1. Shonan,

No, you would pay $180, then have a monthly bill of $70 a month you would have to pay. If you didn’t pay it you would be sent to collections and you will be charged the $200 cancellation fee from T-Mobile, plus the $70, and according the the agreement Google has when you buy the phone ANOTHER $350. You are better off, buying the phone for $530 if you do not need or plan to use the new line.

  10. Thnx Unlockr,

Ok ,would wait for the Htc Bravo

    Two more questions…
Any guess if the HTC Bravo will be released by T-Mobile?
    Htc Bravo Would be Multi-Touch?

  11. i know this is WAY off the subject but i have a question that i can’t find the answer for anywhere! does any one know what each partition on your memeory card is for? does the swap size mess with the apps run? i play all the ems on my g1 and i was just wondering if these partitions will affect the performance of them?

    1. MrJoeyLoke,

The Swap partition is like virtual RAM (usually used when you try to use a Hero ROM on your G1 because the Hero has a lot more RAM than the G1), Ext2 (or ext3 or ext4) is system memory, we use that to convince the G1 it has more system memory than it came with since Android ONLY lets apps to be stored to system memory, this is where your apps go. And then Fat32 is your standard memory card partition that you use to store media, files, etc.

  12. Unlockr ,

Honestly I don’t care about being sent to collections lol . I’ll just pay for the phone pay the first months bill and “disappear”.

    1. Shonan,

Ha, well with that mentality I’d assume youve done that before which would mean your credit is hurting from it, which would mean you wont get approved for a contract (requires a credit check) so you’ll have to go no contract. But hey if they give it to you, more power to you!

    1. Jessica,

Never lol Did you read the post? 🙂 It will only be sold by Google at Google.com/phone according to our sources (at least at the moment). When will it be on sale there? Were assuming well get an announcement at CES (Jan 7th through 10th)

  13. i see! so if a am on hero i should use like a 96 swap or higher? now i am on cyanogen’s rom and only runing a 64mb swap… thanks for the info!

  14. lol ok i guess i didnt read it that well. i was hoping to get in unsubsidized on the evenmore plus plan thats why 😀

  15. but cant break it down into payments tho… :{ well nothing is official yet. there might be a chance T would offer it instore after they announce it… hopefully.. cuz thats the only way i would get it
