How To: Get the HTC HD2 Back to Stock

I. Before You Begin

1. Use this method to revert back to the stock ROM that came on your HTC HD2 so you can start over, or send it in for warranty.

II. Flash the Stock ROM and SPL

1. Download the original Stock ROM/SPL for your appropriate HD2:

T-Mobile Stock ROM/SPL
ELL HTC HD2 Stock ROM/SPL
French HTC HD2 Stock ROM/SPL
NLD HTC HD2 Stock ROM/SPL

2. Extract the .zip file the ROM comes in (if it comes in one).

3. Plug your phone in via USB.

4. Sync it with Windows Device Center 6.1 and wait for it to finish.

5. Double click the .exe file inside the folder we extracted earlier.

6. Follow the prompts and wait for it to finish flashing.

7. Once it is done, click ok, close the program, and reboot the phone. Done!

  2. ok thanks I did a factory reset and I also found that an app I had on here was causing it to freeze but I did a factory reset to be safe now im running smooth thanks a lot unlockr.

  3. I was just wondering.. One of the settings that comes with stock ROM isn’t there. Which is “Screen” which allows you to align the screen. Not that it matters just wondering what else isn’t there.

  4. Hi!
If I flash my phone that it locked to vendor with the version named “unbranded” it will unlock my phone?
    thank you!

    1. Dann,

No, it will simply unbrand the phone it will still be locked to the carrier. If you want to unlock your phone you’d have to pay for an unlock code. See our Unlock My Phone section of our site at the top right.

  5. What about the radio versions? I read on XDA forum that it is advised to have a radio version 2.07.50… My question is, if I change the radio version and install the HardSPL and then play around with the custom roms, will that all be uninstalled when I flash the stock rom and send the phone to warranty if i have to?
    Thank you

  6. To return it back to stock , i want to know something,,,i have one htc hd 2 t-mobile unlocked, and want to remove t-mobile from the phone….is that program? also the warranty it will be ok when i do that’? nothing changes only restore to the normal stage without any carrer?

  8. Hi mate, the bottom buttons started freezing, t-mobile helped me to fix it but i did the android update that it said i had to do and the phone is completly different. how do i take it back to what it was originally? will i lose my photos, numbers and texts? etc

  9. I have an unlocked phone, do I flash it with the unbranded, or the t-mobile. Will it lock it again if I do the t-mobile?

  10. Be careful that you have to flash the stock rom either from SD card or flash from activesync and after flashing the HSPL2 again. Only flashing from activesync won’t remove the HSPL (eg. HSPL3 or whatever HSPL version might be).

    Cheers.

  11. i’v been trying but every time he freezes at the loading screen!? when i reset, when i use the power-on and volume-down method he will freeze by “loading…”

  12. Will factory reset clear my unlock code? I’m running a T-mobile phone on Rogers network and i’m wondering if I will lose my code by going back to stock.

  13. I currently have T Mobile Hd2 flashed with elegancia series rom, 2.08 hspl 8g XE and am having many issues with programs freezing, phone being VERY slow, and turning off at random times… my internet only works when it wants to and i never had any of these problems before. i am going to try to flash back to stock ROM listed here…. After I get my hd2 back to stock what are some things I can do to speed up my hd2 and tweak it out so I don”t have these problems anymore (without flashing other roms and radios please)?????

    1. Ashley,

Sometimes it isn’t your phone, it’s the ROM. Some developers just aren’t very good at performance tweaks etc. The only true option is to just flash a different ROM.

  14. hey unlocker….i did everything you said but the hard SPL is still on my phone…….anyway i can flash the stock SPL back so i can send my phone in for warranty?

    1. to change HSPL back to SPL: run the hspl install again. then it will ask you which version to install. in my case the choices were 2.08 HSPL and just 2.08. install the option that DOES NOT have HSPL in it. do this AFTER you flashed stock rom!

  15. Hey Unlockr,
So i have the hd2 and installed the android froyo version 3 and but i am sending it in to tmobile so i did what u said and now i am back to the origional settings, but when i go to “about the fone” the on “phone identity” on my phone it says that the model No. is T-mobile_LEO is this going to be a problem when i sent it in? im not sure how it was when i first got it?
    Thanks

    1. JORGITO-ESTRADA

it is not going to be a problem. The HTC HD 2 has two names “HTC HD2” and “HTC(or T-MOBILE) LEO”.

  16. hey Unlockr,
i flashed it back to the stock rom, and when it was done it just froze at the stick together screen. so i took out the battery waited and turned it back on. after that it when to the windows screen and loaded up, and said preparing use for the first time. when the progress bar completed it just restarted the whole process and did it for two times until i took out the battery again. what should i do?

  17. Hey Unlockr,

Thank you so much for this!! as much as i liked the other ROM i had on my phone, it killed my battery so fast.. but thank you.

  18. ok so i did what you said and it worked great. i know have the stock rom for my tmobile hd2. now i didnt know how to remove the hspl. i went back to the program where you get the hspl and instead of choosing that one i chose the 2.8000 (something like that). my phone now reads

    PB81120 SS-B3
    SPL-2.08.0000 8G XE
    MicroP(LED) 0x05
    MicroP(TOUCH) 0x40

is this the correct numbers for the stock SPL for a tmobile HD2?

    if not then what is?

    1. No!
First of all run again HSPL2.
      1) Connect your phone and sellect SPL 1.42.0000 (don`t choose 1.42.HSPL)
      2) Reflash again with the latest firmware 3.14
      3) You will see SPL-3.03.0000 XE
      That`s all! =)

  19. Hello,
I have ROM version 3.14.720.3 on my HD_2 (512 flash Memo size) installed and can not install any other ROM (upgraded or downgraded) so would you please help me to get rid of this ROM and back to 1.43 ROM in order to get android 2.2 on my HD_2

    Thanks in advance.

    1. I am having the same issue as Barry Massey. When I connect the USB to the phone the only option is to sync with HTC Sync and Windows Mobile Device is not an option.

  20. i did this and my hd2 works.but if i send it to htc they can see if i did this [the stock rom i mean]?my hd2 has still his warranty and i don’t want to lose it

  21. I have installed the Nand Android Rom on my phone and am trying to revert and reinstal the stock rom. Using HTC sync I can establish an active sync connection to my PC and they can see each other, but when I run thru the instal of the stock rom It keeps sayin its unable to connect to my fone? How do I get around this one? Please Help!

  22. It never gets old that there is always something missing; for example, we also need the original radio which too needs to be flashed to return to stock.

  23. Anyone wanna make a quick $20? If u can please email me and help me get my phone back to where i need it to be Ill paypal u the cash or transfer to you.. Basically…some idiot sold me an hd2 with the cyanogenmod 7gingerbread… great right? Not really… I cant reset it because its got some type of NAND restore feature that bypasses the hard reset…doesent let u even ask to reinstall packages..to make it worse he didt give me the sd card that had the original rom backup on it… so…im stuck with a nice phone that i cant erase his email I dont know the password to so I can go into the marketplace… frustrating.. If u can at least get me to the point I can get back to a bone stock phone Ill throw u some cash. If its complicated and u walk me through and it takes more time..ill pay u more. Email me please… KROCK21@GMAIL.COM

  24. i had the exact same issue as the post below…I was able to make it flash with the android rom using the USB connect (hold pwr button while booting, select opton 5, green button twice). So I knoe the USB works….but I can’t revert to the stock rom/firmware with:

    RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.10.531.0_Radio_Signed_15.34.50.07U_2.08.50.08_2_Ship
    or
    T-Mobile_HD2_MR_Software_3.14.531.1

    What can I do now?

    1. take off battery cover, hold down the yellow reset button with a pen as well as the volume down button until you see a screen with red, green, and blue stripes. then hook up your usb. the computer will install the drivers. after drivers installed, then run the ruu leo 1 5 tmous file. let everything run and then your phone will b flashed over.

  28. Gabriel Sandulache

I have a bit of a problem here. I tried to install this rom and my phone simply died. The installation process was successful (at least that’s what my pc said) but when I looked at my phone it looked like it was turned off. And it stayed like this since then. It won’t turn on, i can’t even get it to work in bootloader. I have no idea what happened to it. Can anyone help me?

  29. So my phone a HTC HD is on android and I would like to roll it back to Windows mobile, since the phone is now on android it doesn’t sync with windows mobile device center.  How would I go about getting windows back on the phone?

  30. Hi! I just flashed my HTC HD2 back to the T-mobile stock rom. After the 100% complete, my phone booted, and it was stuck at the “stick together” screen as usual. I pulled out the battery and put it back in, but my phone would not turn on no matter what button I pressed. The battery is fully charged, but the phone just won’t turn on. Would you please tell me what’s the problem here and how do I fix it? Please help! A million thanks!

    1. Did you have HSPL installed?  Try taking battery out, and using a key or something to gently poke up the three battery pins on the phone, then put battery in and retry.

  31. You don’t need to mess around with Windows Device Center.

Any of you having problems using other methods try this one – ALSO Task29 removes all traces of Android.

Best way to do this IMHO:

    – Don’t install ANY ROMS without HSPL as you may brick your system! –
    – Install SPL After flashing Stock ROM – Assuming you already have HSPL (Hard SPL) installed –

Google HD2 ToolKit, download and install it on your PC (handy for later flashes too),
then reset your phone holding Volume Down button, it will go into rainbow screen,
plug in your usb and you should hear your computer recognize it.
Then run Task29 from the HD2toolKit, this will clear everything.
Restart with VOLUME DOWN again to get to the rainbow screen again.
Then install a stock ROM from XDA Developers Website (I put on this one: RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship-2.exe )

    – Then download either HSPL4.exe from XDA Devs, or HSPL2 –  (Also Pay attention to whether you need USA T-Mobile version or EU version)
    – Boot your device and let it run through simple WinMO setup (optional)
    – Then Restart go back to the rainbow screen
    – run HSPL 2 or 4, and put on either 1.66.000 SPL (HSPL2 file) or 2.08.000 (HSPL4 file).

Restart and go back to rainbow screen, you should see the SPL version you’ve installed, as long as it says .000 at the end and not .HSPL it is stock.

You can now send back for repair 🙂

  32. you my friend deserves the noble peace prize. I have struggled to reset my phone forever after attempting a bad android root. You just saved the day. Thank you very much.
