As many great products there is knock-offs. Dyzplastic, the makers of the official Android figures, release a press release on how to tell spot a real Android figure that may become valuable from a fake figure that may remand worthless.

One of the best places to look is on the box itself. Almost all the fakes boxes are based on the smaller boxes first run. If you are buying yours from EBay then try to figure out how old the figure is. But if you are buying the figure from a store and it has a small box then do not buy. The smaller boxes tend to be way darker colors then the real boxes and most of the time there is small mistakes in copying the pictures to a fake box. Another way to tell on any box if the figure you’re looking at is a fake is if there is an authenticity seals. There is no authenticity seals on real Android figure boxes.

If you can look at the Android or take it out of the package in the store then even the package material can tell you to run or buy. Most fakes are package in white foam to protect the antennae. The real first editions ones are in plain foil bags with no foam and the second editions are in printed foil bags with black foam square on top.

The Android figure itself can tell you a lot too. On the fake Android figures the Android logo is on the front while the real ones has the Android logo on the back but if the logo on the back isn’t very pronounced then it could be a fake. Also the real Android figures are painted green while fakes are molded with green plastic. Another way the figure can tell you if it’s a fake or not is the arms. The arms on the real Android figures has a seam along the arm but it’s much more obvious on a fake. Also the arms on a fake is often glossy and doesn’t match the body. On a fake the antenna is much longer and more fragile than the real ones. Most of the fake androids are the green or albino figures because they are the easiest and cheapest to make.

A thing to keep in mind is if you find a fake that looks 100% like the real thing then the fake can be even more valuable than a real one in a few years but if you are trying to get the real deal without being ripped off then follow this guide and any guide that comes from Dyzplastic and you should have the real thing.

I wouldn’t mind getting a fake just as long as they’re cheap.

Given that the Android logo itself is open on the creative commons, how can you have a ‘real’ and ‘fake’ ?
