Samsung Galaxy S will get Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Of course, if the Nexus S is getting it, why can’t an identically specced device get it too, right?  Samsung cleverly hid behind words when queried recently on the subject but its Indian execs, not quite so.  The news was revealed via Samsung’s Indian Twitter page in reply to a Galaxy S user query, saying “Gingerbeard [sic] will be available for GalaxyS users.”  Considering this is great news for many of our readers, we’ll let the typo slide 🙂

It might be a little while before this actually happens, since the Froyo 2.2 update is still on its way to some Galaxy S owners around the world, but it’s good to know that Samsung hasn’t forgotten it’s best-selling baby already.  We just hope it will get out faster than the 2.2 update, which many compatible devices are yet to receive.

  1. I believe Canada is getting the 2.2 support first. Hopefully it will come for non-rooted users early next year. Until then, the Axura ROM is the best you can get for Froyo and it’s extremely stable!
