NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 Quad-Core Chip Coming Soon?

With the first dual-core mobile devices coming out this year, when will NVIDIA up the ante again? Well, according to Mashable, how about now?

NVIDIA hasn’t officially launched the Tegra 3 yet, but a few sources are saying it’s a definite. Softpedia says it should be unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 14th.

Mike Rayfield himself, NVIDIA’s General Manager of Tegra, said in an interview with Hexus,

“I’m going to come pretty close to my cadence of a launch every year,” said Rayfield. “It will be in production around the same time as my competitors’ first dual-cores will.”

In other words, NVIDIA plans to launch a new chip pretty much every year and since the Tegra 2 launched at CES 2010, that would mean the next gen is around the corner. Now, that doesn’t mean we’ll be seeing the chip in any devices soon, but the announcement should be soon. But as we saw with the Tegra 2 chip that dominated the tablets and dual core devices at CES 2011, we should be seeing these quad-core devices early 2012.
