Updated: Motorola Xoom and Atrix Hit Best Buy for Pre-Release Demo, Quadrant Scores and Some Feature Insights Ensue

So there is no photo evidence or substantiating proof, but we got a tip from a source saying that Best Buy employees got their hands on the Motorola Xoom and Motorola Artrix in a demo at work as a pre-release introduction. Opinions seem to be high of both devices with comments like, “3.0 was very smooth and love the setup” and “the laptop layout [for the Motorola Atrix] was very nice”.

Some interesting info that came out of this was that a few Quadrant benchmark test scores came out of this demo. Quadrant is a benchmark test that can be downloaded from the Android Market onto your device that runs it’s CPU and 3D graphic processors through a series of stress tests and then produces a score that can be compared again other devices.

Using this test, the Motorola Xoom got a 1957 and the Motorola Atrix got a 2074. Compare that to the Nexus S for example which scores around 1900 and has no bloatware (like I’m sure the Motorola phones do), and the Motorola rep kept saying it was “pre-release” software as well, and that’s not too bad.

The tipster went on to say that he noticed some other interesting features on the Atrix. The first was that the homescree when you connect the Atrix into the it’s “laptop” dock is very reminiscent of Windows more so than the normal Android homescreen and that there was an interesting feature that allows you to take any website and make it an “e-app” or a fancy shortcut as we’re led to believe.

The second interesting feature he noticed was that the Motorola Atrix’s power button also doubles as a finger print scanner most likely used to lock the device with. I used to have this feature on a laptop I had and loved it. Not only was it used for unlocking the laptop but I could use it to autofill username and password fields on any website. So perhaps that functionality is inherent as well (and if not I’m sure the MotoDev kit will allow third party developers to add fun functionality for the scanner).

UPDATE: The tipster remembered a few more details, again none of this comes with any proof:

The Motorola Atrix laptop dock has 2 usb ports on the back and has the ability to print wirelessly or using a usb cable on one of the ports.

The Motorola XOOM also had a weird name for the Market, it was labelled “Finsky” for some reason. Possibly due to it being optimized for a tablet.

Thanks BBY Employee for sending this in!

  1. The upcoming Motorola Xoom tablet may be offered with a 3G contract similar to that of the
iPad. That is, if Verizon maintains the current tablet contract scheme it offers with Samsung’s Galaxy Tab.
