Dell Streak gets an unofficial taste of Gingerbread

Currently at Android 2.2, the 1GHz-powered Dell Streak has come a long way from the Donut 1.6 OS that it came with originally.  Stephen Hyde over at MoDaCo has now given it a new breath of life, porting Gingerbread over to the aging device, calling it the StreakDroid 2.0.0 or GingerStreak.   The build is based on Android 2.3.3 and the installation procedure seems pretty straightforward if you know what you are doing:

  1. Download Streakdroid5-2.0.zip from the links below
  2. Boot into StreakMod or Clockwork Recovery
  3. Select Update from Zip File > Select Zip File From SD Card > StreakDroid5-2.0.zip
  4. Wait for installation.
  5. First Boot may take longer than a normal boot. Things are being installed, stuff is being generated. Patience.
  6. Enjoy.

Head over to MoDaCo now if you want to try it out.

  1. What is the benefit to using this ROM? Does it unlock my dell streak. I have a O2 contract that it hasn’t finished yet. If I upgrade to Gingerbread, my Dell will be unlocked and I can use any sim cart? Or there are other benefits?

    1. Contact the o2 people they will unlock u for free. Or just email them to mywebcarecorm@o2.co.uk requesting them for unlocking your device

Note: you need to send your phone number and imei number( get it by pressing *#06# on your keypad) and your last bill date and amount in the email if not they will not respond to your mail. They will send u the unlock code within 24 hours. Now you can use any sim u want.

      Thanks

      Regards
