Today at WWDC iOS 5 New Notification Center

The anticipation was almost too much to handle as more than 5,200 people lined the streets to attend this year’s sold out WWDC. Wasting no time, Steve Jobs kicked off the festivities and the keynote started with a demo of their newest OS X Lion. This all leading up to the meat of their presentation being the mobile operating system future with iOS 5.

Apple reported holding a staggering 44% of the mobile share with 200 million iOS devices sold while Android fell in the number two slot with 28% of the share. The first issue addressed being those pesky notifications that seem to annoy the masses. iOS 5 plans to solve this with a new “Notification Center”. The new notifications are unobtrusive and go away after a moment while still allowing you to get back to them at your convenience. You are able to see all of your notifications in mass with the option to tap an X on the right to make them disappear. We did not see the option to delete all of them simultaneously in mass but hopefully that is part of the solution.

Other iOS 5 highlights included newsstand subscriptions, a newly integrated Twitter, a new Reminder feature, and tabbed browsing.
