New Spaceship-like Apple Office Compound with Room for 12,000 Employees

Apple appears to be extremely busy by unveiling plans to build a spaceship-like office compound with room for 12,000 employees. The single office building on the new campus will look “a little like a spaceship landed,” Steve Jobs announced during a council meeting on Tuesday. Jobs continued to explain that Apple will maintain their existing headquarters located in Cupertino, California, but will utilize the new space to accommodate their growing employee force.

Apple originally bought the land from Hewlett-Packard while HP was incurring a downsize. Jobs remarked that this land held sentimental value to him as HP offered him a summer job back in 1969. The new office building will be approximately four stories high with a ‘greener’ look to it. The existing piece of land has a tremendous amount of asphalt, whereas Apple wants to create a space with 80% landscaping.

Apple plans to create an energy center that will power the new campus along with providing back up power. Additionally, Apple plans to create a new auditorium within the space to avoid having to make presentations in San Francisco. Could this be the future destination for WWDC?
