HP slashes TouchPad price to $99, gains in popularity posthumously

A few short days after announcing the TouchPad’s and WebOS’ demise, HP has begun recouping its losses and disposing of the leftover TouchPad units (which have got to be a lot!) in the aftermath.  Hence, a price drop right down to $99 and guess what, this has actually sparked a new interest in the unfortunate device – after all, would you pass up an opportunity to pick up a device that has features like a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of working memory and 16GB of internal memory?  We didn’t think so and that seems to be the general consensus, since the HP Webstore has now apparently sold all of TouchPads available and currently displays an “Out of Stock” message.

As a WebOS device, the TouchPad might not be the most coveted tablet on the planet but plans are in motions to port Android over to it, so those buying it now could potentially be investing in a relatively current-specced device at a throwaway price.

We’ll keep you posted as more on the TouchPad emerges.
