US Cellular customers can say goodbye to Froyo on the HTC Merge, as the Android 2.3 update for the handset is now available. The update will get the HTC version on the device to 3.10.573.1 and will bring all the features that Gingerbread 2.3.4 has to offer. Sadly though, with no secondary camera onboard, the Merge will not be able to make use of the update’s most prominent feature, GTalk video chat. On the bright side, users will see the HTC Sense UI updated to 2.1, which will give easier access to recent apps via the notification bar among other improvements.
The 269MB-heavy update will not be available OTA, so you will need to connect your handset to a computer to get it started via HTC Sync. Your Merge will be completely wiped before the update is applied, so be sure to back up your data beforehand.
