How to Root the Motorola Droid 4 using the All-in-One Utility

The Droid 4 has been around only for a few days but the development seems already to be in full force, with the first fruits of this appearing in the form of a easy root solution for this superb device.  We’ll show you below how to do this as painlessly as possible.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  Make sure you have the Motorola device drivers installed on your Windows PC.  If not, download the 32-bit or the 64-bit drivers and install them before proceeding.

2.  Make sure you have enabled installation of applications from unknown sources on your device.  To do this, head to Settings -> Applications and then check the Unknown Sources option.

3.  Remember to fully charge your device before beginning.

4.  Download the Droid 4 Utility 0.4.

II.  Rooting the Droid 4

1.  Extract Droid 4 Utility 0.4 to a folder on your desktop.

2.  Connect your Droid 4 to the PC.

3.  Make sure you have enabled USB Debugging.  To do this, head to Settings -> Applications -> Development and check the box next to Enable USB Debugging.

4.  Run Droid4Windows.bat from the extracted folder.

5.  You should be greeted with a DOS window with the following options:

6.  Select option 1 if you have Gingerbread 2.3.6 as your OS or option 6 if you have already updated to Android 4.0.3.

7.  Once you have made your choice, sit back and let the Utility do its thing.

8.  Reboot device once the process is complete.

Your Droid 4 should now be rooted and ready to play around with any custom ROM you want!!
