How to root a Galaxy Tab (P1000) running Gingerbread 2.3.5 (zergRush Exploit Method)

While we do have a guide on how to root the Galaxy Tab already, many readers have pointed out that it doesn’t work with the Galaxy Tab running Android 2.3.5.  Hence, this How-To that will show you how to gain root access on the Galaxy Tab running Gingerbread 2.3.5 specifically and install Busybox and Superuser apps at the same time.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  This only works with the P1000 version of the Galaxy Tab, running Gingerbread 2.3.5; so make sure that this is the device and OS you currently have.

2.  Ensure that you have ADB drivers installed.  If you haven’t done this already, look to our How-To on this to guide you.

II.  Download the Necessary Files

DooMLorD zergRush Tool v.4

III.  Rooting the Galaxy Tab

1.  Enable USB Debugging on your device.  You can do this by heading to Settings > Applications > USB Debugging and checking the tickbox next to it.

2.  Enable installation of non-Market applications.  To do this, go to Settings > Applications and check the Unknown Sources tickbox.

3.  Connect the Galaxy Tab to your Windows-based PC.  If you see any drivers being installed at this stage, let your computer do so automatically.

4.  Extract DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip to a folder on your desktop.

5.  From the extracted folder, click on runme.bat to run the root tool.

Your Tab should reboot when the whole procedure is complete.  Once the device reboots and the tool confirms that the procedure is done, look for the Superuser app in the app drawer or download the Root Checker app to confirm root access.

  1. My Verizon Tab does not root, it says at the end that my device is rooted and when i go to the apps to see if I have the Superuser, and its not there, checked if my device was rooted with the root checker app and it says it is not rooted… I am running the 2.3.5 i don’t see why it does not root… Is there any other way?
