How To Sync E-Mail Accounts on an Android Phone

One great functionality of an android phone is that you can keep up with multiple e-mail accounts for both business and personal use. Additionally, syncing accounts is another way to back-up data. Syncing e-mail accounts is an easy process, and the same process can be used for other social-networking accounts as well.

Syncing Your Account

1. Go to “Settings”

2. Select “Accounts”

3. Choose “Add Account”

4. You will be directed to a screen giving you various options for setting up accounts. Some accounts included include e-mail, facebook, Picasa (Gallery), Skype, Twitter, and YouTube. Select “e-mail”

5. Select an e-mail account type to sync (AOL, Yahoo, Windows Live Hotmail, Gmail).

6. If the account type you use is not available, select “other”

7. You may have to agree to your phone manufacturer’s or provider’s “terms of service.”  Read the terms, and “Agree” to continue.

8. Enter existing account information (your e-mail address and password) into your phone.

9. Select “Next.” Your account may take a few seconds to sync to your phone.

10. Select “Done” to complete the syncing process.

Potential Issues

Although syncing is usually a pretty seamless process, there can be issues. For example, while my Gmail account synced perfectly, I had trouble syncing another account because the server for that website was unable to process my request. I simply waited another day and was able to sync the account.

Hi, In some Custom ROMs I couldnt find accounts other than 1. Corporate Account and 2. Facebook.
I dont know why this happened: it was in the ICS 4.0.4 ROM.
Also I could not provide Fixed IP Address in the Advanced section of WiFi.
Is there a ROM with these under ICS?

  2. There is no option to select an e mail accout. Also there is a “check” box asking if I wanted to use this e mail as default?

  3. I went to ‘ system setting, account &sync’ to turn ON the sync function. But it only stayed on for about an hour or two then it automatically turned back to OFF. Does anyone know how to keep this feature always turns ON?

I really don’t like the new update. Can’t stand it a bit!

  4. Let’s clarify what you mean by ‘sync’. You can see e-mail from the same account on both. But they are not truly synced. I have mine set up as you describe. But, when I send from my phone, those sent e-mails never show up in the sent folder on my laptop. Anything sent from one device does not show up on the other. That is very frustrating to me and the one thing I am trying to figure out.
