How to Root Samsung Galaxy S3 Smartphone

Though Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone hasn’t been launched worldwide, a root method for this phone has become available. If you are eager to know how you can root Galaxy S3 smartphone from OUTSIDE THE US, then here’s a guide for you.

I. Before You Begin:

1. The warranty of the phone will be voided once you root it. However, you can get it back by either applying stock firmware or unrooting your phone.

2. !!!THIS IS FOR GALAXY S III’s THAT ARE NOT US VERSIONS! PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS ON YOUR T-MOBILE, AT&T, VERIZON, OR SPRINT VERSION OF THE GALAXY S III. THE US VERSION ROOT WILL BE LISTED LATER HERE. *If you already tried it, here is how to fix your US branded Galaxy S III.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Download the complete Rooting Package from here.

2. Download the Odin tool from here.

III. Rooting Samsung Galaxy S3:

1. Place the Rooting Package and the Odin Tool archives onto your Desktop.

2. Extract files from the Odin Tool and Rooting Package archives and place them on your Desktop.

3. Launch the Odin by double-clicking on Odin3 v1.85.exe file.

4. Turn OFF your Galaxy S3 smartphone.

5. Boot your phone into the download mode. You can do so by pressing and holding Volume DOWN+Home+Power keys simultaneously.

6. When the phone is in download mode, connect it to your PC using the USB cable.

7. Now, from the Odin tool, click on PDA button and select the CF-Insecure-SGS3_XX_NEE_ALE8-v1.2.tar file which you extracted from the rooting package archive.

8. Click the Start button and it will begin the process to root your phone.

9. Once the rooting is done, head over to the Google Play and download the Superuser app.

Your phone should now be rooted and you now have access to the system files of the phone.

If this procedure helped you rooting your phone, then please head over to the XDA Forum to thank/donate to the original developer of this root method !

You root say, the s2 or galaxy note, i completely understand.
But what is the use of rooting an s3?

I mean, it already has a quad-core processor and a pretty nifty battery life.
So why DO you need to root the s3? I’m consused. o.O

    • Yes

Do I need to say Titanium Backup, or Cerberus anti-theft with the possibility to hide the app even if you reset the device? And there are plenty more uses and great apps.

    • Mike

      @vasan
I bought my S3 this three hours ago, it’s full of Vodacr@p which I want off and doesn’t have Droid Wall, Titanium Backup, AdFree, Multi-Mount SD or WebKey which I want on (same as my Desire) so rooting an S3 seems like an excellent idea.

Rooting your S3 will let you open a whole new world of apps, that are really awesome and work on Rooted phones only.

  • diddy47

does this root give you superuser automatically or is that a separate procedure

    • Mahesh Makvana

You need to download the Superuser app from Google Play. The link for the same is given in the procedure.

  • Khurram Mirza

Very disappointed. My SG3 has XXALE9 and ODIN does not work with the ALE8. It just fails. Even the chainfires CWM method doesnt do anything. Will I need a XXALE9 insecure kernel? Is it available? need to root the phone

    • Mahesh Makvana

Yeah, you’ll need an Insecure Kernel in order to root your phone.

  • Pete

Hey thanks for the guide but didn’t work for me. I have the XXLE8 kernel and everything in Odin worked great, but upon a restart I launched Titanium backup and no good. Do I need SuperUser app?

    Cheers

    • Peter

Same problem here. Anyone know how to solve this?

  • John

Tried this, Odin said pass, but now the phone won’t boot! Tried is a second and third time with same results. Phone is now a brick… What do I do???

    • Paul

I am in the same boat. Some recovery info would be nice.

This procedure works on the International Samsung Galaxy S3 only. If you’re on any US career, then it won’t work.
