How to Root HTC One X (AT&T Version) running 1.85

While our other posts may work with older updates on the AT&T One X, the recent update to v1.85 broke root for many people.  This post will be a solution for these specific devices; read on to know how.

Before You Begin

1.  This solution may not work forever as AT&T might wise up and put a stop to the update.  So get it while it lasts!

2.  Back up your data as always, although it is not compulsory while following this guide.

3.  Ensure that the proper drivers are installed before you begin; use the next section to download and install them if you haven’t already.

Necessary Downloads

1.  185_root_script.zip (Available for download in the first post of this thread)

2.  Necessary USB drivers.

Rooting the AT&T One X

1.  Ensure that HTC Sync is not running in the background on your Windows PC.  You will see the HTC Sync icon in the system tray if it is running; right click on it and click on exit or open up the Task Manager and end the relevant process.

2.  Enable USB Debugging mode.  To do this, head to Settings > Development and then tick the Enable USB Debugging checkbox.

3.  Connect your device and set your connection mode to Charge Only.  To do this, pull down the notification bar and change the connection type to Charge only if it is anything else.

4.  Extract 185_root_script.zip to a folder on your desktop.

5.  From the extracted folder, double-click on root.bat to begin the rooting process and follow the on-screen instructions.

You should have a rooted One X at the end of the procedure!

All credit goes to designgears and beaups (for the original exploit) on XDA!!  A thank you or even a donation would be much appreciated and if you agree, be sure to donate to them by clicking the Donate links on their respective XDA profiles!!
