Hello. The same happens to me. Whenever I try this or ANY OTHER method, I keep on receiving the message: “recovery verification failed….”, and that’s all. Then I can only turn the Iconia A500 off and start it again. I am really a Little tired of looking in the whole internet, but still haven’t found a REAL solution to this problem. Wanting too much to find someone here who could give me the right directions. Kind regards.

    1. Hello,

At the Step-9, after going to “install zip from sdcard”, choose “toggle signature verification” and turn it OFF.

      It should solve your issue.

      Thanks!

Thank you very much for your answer. Unfortunately, the issue is that I can’t get to reach step 9. After I’m done with step 7 (rebooting the Tablet using the volume and power buttons) I never see the menú. I on ly see the error message that I already told you. More detailed it would be like this:
This is what I see on screen when it begins booting by pressing the already known bottons:
        (In whites letters):
        Erasing Cache before SD Update…..
        SD update cmd: recovery
        –update_package=SDCARD:update.zip
        Booting recovery kernel image
        (and now red letters)
        Recovery verified failed…..
And that’s all. Then I must press the power botton for some seconds until the Tablet turns off, and then I can start it again and load the system as usual.
Still any ideas, please?? I will really appreciate it a lot.
        Best regards.

Sorry to tell you that I eneded up by selling my Iconia A500. ¿O lo debo decir en español…? Bueno, es igual. Tú entendiste. Saludos.

    1. Make sure your SD card isn’t corrupted and is working fine.

Try formatting the SD card and then follow the above procedure once again.

      Hope it helps!

  2. Can I use this method to unroot if I can’t remember how I rooted my device? If I can’t use this method, can you point me in the direction of a method to unroot my device? Thanks!
