How to Root the Huawei MediaPad

Got a Huawei MediaPad and want to get root access on it just because you love those root-only apps available in the Play Store? No worry, a simple root method is available for the device from MoDaCo, the site which often develops root methods for the Android devices. In the following guide, we’ve explained all the steps to root the Huawei MediaPad using the method provided by MoDaCo.

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must be running on the Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich.

2. You are going to void the warranty of your device by rooting it. Keep this in mind and go ahead.

3. Make sure that your PC has Drivers installed for your device.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Root Package (Download link’s given in the first post)

III. Rooting the Huawei MediaPad:

1. Download and place the Root Package archive on your Desktop.

2. Extract files from the Root Package to your Desktop.

3. Turn USB debugging ON on your device from Menu>>Settings>>Developer options>>USB debugging.

4. Connect the device to your PC using the USB cable.

5. Double-click on the Install Root.cmd file you just extracted from the Root Package.

6. Your device should reboot about three times. It is normal.

7. And you’re done!

Your MediaPad has successfully been rooted and the SuperUser app is now there in your App Drawer. It was so easy to root the device, wasn’t it?

IV. Flash a Custom Recovery Image (Optional):

1. If you would like to flash a custom recovery image in order to flash custom ROMs, head to the How To Flash a Custom Recovery Image on the Huawei MediaPad to learn how to do that.

  1. If the author would furthermore tell us whether he is talking about the mediapad 7 or 10, than everyone can use this guide without the risk of bricking their devices.

    1. Hi Neil,

Well, the developer of the root method hasn’t specified any device model on which the procedure works. So, we assume that it should work fine on both, 7 and 10, models of the device.

      Thanks!

  2. Im trying root my huawei mediapad at second time after install back the official ics and it can’t be rooted . Why it happend?

  3. I am trying to root my MediaPad but have repeatedly failed. I see in the command prompt box there are several posts about ‘permissions’.

        1. We have a post coming up Jeboy, but that is for the MediPad 7 Lite S7-931-u/S7-931w versions. Will see if that works with your model or find a new solution for you!

          1. Jeboy, the post is up but as I said it is for the S7-931-u/S7-931w models. There currently seems to be no rooting procedure available for your variant and I am afraid to recommend the same guide to you because you may harm your device if you try it.

          2. Thanks a lot Dax! Anyway, if ever there’s procedure for my model S7-951wd could you please let me know? Great thanks.

  4. My mediapad doesn’t want to open at all and on top of it it has a lock code. It doesn’t make no sound when doing the pattern. Does it has something to do with the screen?!

    1. The best way to sort this issue out is to contact your nearest service center. They may be able to help you with this.
