How to Unroot the Amazon Kindle Fire

Returning to stock ROM on the Amazon Kindle Fire is very easy. Once you’ve gotten root access and installed TWRP Recovery, you can easily flash the stock ROM from the TWRP and turn in your device for the warranty purpose. If you’ve messed up with your device or just want to unroot it, here’s how you can do it. The following guide shows how you can unroot your Amazon Kindle Fire. Here you go:

I. Before You Begin:

1. You should have rooted your Kindle Fire using the guide given here.

2. You must have TWRP Recovery installed on your device. You can do so from here.

3. The battery level on your device shouldn’t be less than 60%.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Stock ROM (Download link’s given in the first post of the thread)

2. Fastboot

III. Unrooting the Amazon Kindle Fire:

1. Download and place both the files you downloaded to the Desktop.

2. Extract files from the Fastboot archive to your Desktop.

3. Rename the Stock ROM file you just downloaded to update.zip.

4. Enable USB debugging on your device from Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Development>>USB debugging.

5. Connect the device to your PC using the USB cable.

6. Copy the Stock ROM file over to the root folder of your device’s SD card.

7. Next, open a Command Prompt Window on your Desktop. To do so, press and hold the Shift button on your keyboard and right-click on any empty area on the screen, then choose Open command window here.

8. Type in the following command into the Command Prompt Window:

adb reboot recovery

9. Your device should reboot into the Recovery Mode from where you can flash the stock ROM.

10. From the Recovery menu, wipe cache, dalvik cache and factory reset as well.

11. Now, choose the Install option and select the update.zip file you copied earlier.

12. It should take some time to finish flashing the file.

13. And you’re done now!

Your Kindle Fire’s now running the pure Stock ROM released by Amazon with no root access. It’s now as pure as it was when you bought it!

      1. I installed the drivers mentioned by you. But i was unable to enable Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Development>>USB debugging as this development option is not there in my Kindle fire

        1. Then head to Menu > Settings > About phone or About tablet, and tap on Build number about 7-8 times and it’ll say “You’re now a developer”.

You’ll then be able to see the USB debugging option on your device.

  1. I have successfully unrooted my fire but now i can not access the quick settings bar at the top of the screen, I have read that some apps cause this to happen but i have none installed on my fire but when i connect to my PC i see that there are many files still present on the SD card, despite them not showing on the device itself as it is now unrooted. Any help or ideas much appreciated.
