How to Flash a Custom Recovery on the Samsung Galaxy Y (GT-S5360)

If you have rooted your Galaxy Y, why not take even more advantage of the device by installing a custom recovery, right?  If you think that’s what you want to do, read on then to know how to install ClockworkMod Recovery (a very popular custom recovery) on the Samsung Galaxy Y.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  You will need to be rooted for this procedure to work.  If you need help with this, try our guide on the same.

2.  The following method does not permanently install CWM on your Galaxy Y.  You will need to install it every time you need to flash a custom ROM or use other functions of CWM.

3.  Make sure that you have at least 75% of your device’s battery charged before you begin.

II.  Necessary Downloads

CWM.zip

III.  Installing ClockworkMod Recovery on the Galaxy Y

1.  Connect your device to your PC via USB and copy the CWM.zip file you downloaded above to your device’s SD card’s main folder (not into any subfolders).

2.  Disconnect your device and turn it off.

3. Press and hold the Volume Up + Home and Power buttons until you see the Samsung Galaxy Y logo.

4.  Use the Volume Up and Down buttons to highlight the apply update from sd card option and press the Home button to select it.

5.  Locate the CWM.zip file you copied above and press the Home button to flash it.

You should see ClockworkMod Recovery load after successfully flashing the zip file!!

  1. Am using Galaxy y S5360
    My phone is permanent restarting, stops in the Samsung LOGO itself
    it all happened after installing the LCD density modder and changed the density from 120 to 140 clicked “save and reboot”

  2. Try wipe data/reset (factory reset), wipe cache, and reboot again. You would need to have taken a backup and restore it after it boots properly, otherwise, your data will be lost!

  3. I have done this procedure. .but it is not installing . . when i click on cwm. it installs succesfully and cwm recovery mode comes . and i click on reboot system .but when i check it says u have to install cwm 🙁

After installing cwm on my samsung galaxy y, i reboot my phone and then Welcome screen like that Samsung GALAXY Y GT-S5360 appear and then it stops there… i tried to wait an hour but it is still in samsung logo…. i also tried to remove the battery and then reboot it but still that fucking samsung logo appear and then nothing continues….help me please!!! 🙁

    I selected the CWM.zip after rebooting… but later I was just seeing the HAT Icon of ClockMod and nothing happening for long time ? Can anyone guide me ?

  7. Wanted to know, if I installed custom recovery after already having CM13 ROM, will this installing recovery delete my installed ROM?
