Nexus 4 Getting LTE on AT&T? How to See If You Get It, Too.
That at least seems to be the case according to a thread over on XDA started by a guy on the outskirts of Oklahoma City. Before you get your hopes up though, it seems that it is a VERY rare scenario and most likely won’t work for you on your Nexus 4. What is happening is that AT&T happens to have the LTE frequency that the Nexus 4 uses in the region where this guy lives but across most of the country they utilize a totally different frequency that just won’t work.
If you’d like to check if it’s working for you on AT&T, here is a list of cities with the slight chance of having the correct frequencies (but even if you are there doesn’t guarantee you’ll get LTE).
I. Look for Your City:
- Phoenix
- Raleigh
- San Juan
- Los Angeles
- Las Vegas
- Oklahoma City
- Dallas
- Chicago
- Charlotte
- Athens, GA
- College Station, TX.
II. Change the APN on Your Device:
- Go to Settings > More > Mobile networks.
- Select Access Point Names.
- Tap the three dots at the bottom right and select New APN.
- Enter in the following information to the appropriate fields, any fields I don’t mention, leave their default values:
III. Enable LTE on your device:
- Open the phone’s dialer.
- Dial *#*#4636#*#*
- When the options come up, select Phone information.
- Scroll down to set preferred network type and change it from WCDMA preferred to LTE/GSM/WCDMA auto (PRL) or LTE only to test it.
- Hit the home button
Wait and see if 4G comes up at the top of your device next to your signal strength to replace the H. If so, welcome to LTE, if not, shed a tear with the rest of us who it doesn’t work for.
Let us know if you did get it to work, and where you are in the comments below.

Twin Cities, Minnesota, didn’t work. There is LTE coverage in this area Its just not working. Also AT&T didn’t register my IMEI because don’t know what the Nexus 4 even is. They had to give me a dummy IMEI
i am in Arlington TX very close to Dallas TX and it didnt work for me :[ mmm
Working just fine for me in Green Bay, WI. Set everything up and get 4G running (LTE). Speeds aren’t as great as some of my other legit AT&T LTE devices, about 11 mbps down, but whatever, I’m happy!

How are you able to save the preferred network settings? as soon as I restart my phone, it reverts back to WCDMA preferred.
Plano, TX (north of Dallas). No LTE joy. Getting 15Mbps on T-Mobile prepaid SIM though, low low latency too. Thinking of just switching off AT&T. Hmmmm
no lte in st.louis suburb, but nexus 4 wcdma 87ms ping 6Mb down and 1.2M up still good. I don’t have an immediate need for faster speeds than cable, and enjoying the nexus 4 screen, smoothness and wireless charging.
are there any negative repercussions to leaving it this way if I do not get LTE? I’m in Los Angeles and would like to see if it ever picks it up while roaming around
No luck in northwest suburbs in Chicagoland. ='[
My AT$T GS3 does get LTE here.
