How to Flash a Custom Recovery on the LG Optimus 3D Max

LG Optimus 3D Max is the successor of the Optimus 3D allowing users to view their photos and videos in 3D format to enhance the viewing experience. The device has a root method and we’ve already covered it on our site and in this guide, we’re gonna show you how you can install the ClockworkMod Recovery on your device. With a custom recovery, you’ll be able to load custom ROMs as well as Tweaks which cannot be installed on devices with no custom recovery. A custom ROM changes the entire appearance of your device and makes you feel like you’ve bought a brand-new device. Let’s get started:

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have rooted your device before doing this procedure. You can follow our How to Root the LG Optimus 3D Max procedure to root the device.

2. This will install the unofficial version of CWM Recovery for the device.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. ClockworkMod Recovery (Download link’s given in the first post)

2. Terminal Emulator (Google Play Link)

III. Installing ClockworkMod Recovery on the LG Optimus 3D Max:

1. Place the Recovery archive you just downloaded to your Desktop.

2. Extract files from the archive to your Desktop.

3. Install the Terminal Emulator app on your device using the link provided above.

4. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.

5. Copy the Recovery Image file you extracted to your Desktop over to the root of your SD card.

6. Disconnect the device once file is copied.

7. Launch the Terminal Emulator app on your device from App Drawer.

8. In the emulator, type in following commands:

su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p6.backup bs=4096
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 bs=4096
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 bs=4096

9. Once recovery’s installed, reboot the device.

10. You’re all set!

Brilliant! Your device has been successfully equipped with a custom recovery called ClockworkMod.
