Nokia Teams Up With Apple In Patent Trial to Ban Samsung Products

Apple never claimed to be lonely in their longtime quest to sue Samsung for patent infringement, but it appears as though the tech giant has some company on their side. According to Reuters, Nokia has signed on with Apple in their request for a permanent injunction against several Samsung products.

Nokia filed a brief, which supports Apple’s case, to the U.S. Court of Appeals on Monday. While the actual brief is still sealed from the public, the summary states that Nokia thinks judge Lucy Koh was incorrect in her denial of Apple’s request for a permanent ban on select Samsung’s products.

Judge Koh ruled that Apple must first establish and prove a “casual nexus” between its patented feature and the demand for its smartphones in order to successfully win a ban on Samsung’s devices. Nokia thinks this was a bad call and “could cause wide-ranging damage to the United States patent protection landscape.”
