How to Install TWRP Recovery on the Viewsonic gTablet

Not so popular although a successful tablet, the Viewsonic gTablet has been able to win hearts of the Android users by providing great multimedia experience on its 10.1″ inch screen. Unfortunately, official updates haven’t been able to reach the device and so the device’s still stuck at Android 2.2 Froyo. However, custom recoveries like ClockworkMod have made it possible for users to upgrade to a newer version of firmware, unofficially, obviously. Besides ClockworkMod Recovery, the TWRP Recovery’s also available to be flashed on your device and this guide shows exactly how you can do that. It walks you through all the required steps to install TWRP Recovery on the Viewsonic gTablet to let you experience the difference. Here you go:

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have rooted your device before doing this procedure. You can check out our root guide to root your device.

2. Your device needs to have at least 60% of battery life left.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. TWRP Recovery (Download latest version of the Recovery)

III. Installing TWRP Recovery on the Viewsonic gTablet:

1. Place the TWRP Recovery archive you downloaded to your Desktop.

2. Extract files from the archive to your Desktop. You’ll get a recovery folder and an update.zip file.

3. Connect your device to your PC via USB cable.

4. Copy the recovery folder as well as update.zip file over to the root of your SD card. It’s the topmost folder.

5. Once copied, unplug your device from your PC.

6. Turn OFF your device.

7. Reboot the device into Recovery Mode. To do so, press and hold the Volume UP+Power buttons together.

8. Here’re Recovery specific instructions to flash the recovery:

a) If you’re running stock recovery:

i. From the Recovery menu, select apply update.zip option.

b) If you’re running CWM Recovery:

i. Select install zip from sdcard option.

ii. Select choose zip from sdcard.

iii. Choose the update.zip file you copied earlier to your device.

9. Once the recovery’s flashed on your device, reboot your device.

10. And you’re all done!

Brilliant! The TWRP Recovery was successfully installed on your Viewsonic gTablet and you can access it using the same way you accessed the Stock or CWM Recovery.
