How to Root the LG Optimus U

The LG Optimus U is a US Cellular device that runs Android 2.2 Froyo as its operating system and packs some good features. The device’s got a 3.2″ inch screen with the resolution of 320×480 pixels, a 3.2 MP camera on the back and all those common features we usually see in a mid-range smartphone. You’ll be glad to know that the device’s root-able, that means, you can load your favorite root-only apps on your device as well as remove any unwanted system apps. Rooting your LG Optimus U is as easy as pie and this guide should help you accomplish it.

I. Before You Begin:

1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.

2. Make sure your device has at least 50% of battery life left.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. z4Root APK (It’s attached in the first post)

III. Rooting the LG Optimus U:

1. Download and place the z4Root APK file onto your Desktop.

2. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.

3. Choose Mass Storage as the connection type so you can transfer files fro and to your device.

4. Copy the z4Root APK file over to the root of your SD card.

5. Once the file’s been copied, unplug your device from your PC.

6. Head to Menu>>Settings>>Applications on your device and enable the Unknown sources option.

7. Open the File Manager app on your device and install the APK file you copied earlier to your device.

8. Once installed, open it from your App Drawer.

9. Hit the button that says Root and it’ll root your device.

10. You should be rooted now!

Congratulations! Your Optimus U has been successfully rooted, all thanks to z4Root app. You may now go ahead and install any root-only app on your device to check if you’re really rooted!
