How to Root the Huawei Ascend Y200

The Huawei Ascend Y200 was launched back in 2012 comprising of an IPS LCD screen, something we don’t see in most smartphones out there. With Android 2.3 running on-board, the Ascend Y200 is an ideal choice for entry-level smartphone buyers who are concerned about their budgets. The smartphone’s equipped with a GPU, so all the top games that you’ve been seeing in the Google Play will just run fine on your device without tweaking anything. If you’ve just picked up this device and wondering how you could root it, probably to install root-only apps, then this guide’s going to help you with that. Here’s how you can root your Huawei Ascend Y200 smartphone.

I. Before You Begin:

1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.

2. This works on Windows based PCs only.

3. This will also install ClockworkMod Recovery on your device.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Root Package

2. ADB/Fastboot

3. Superuser

III. Flashing a Custom Recovery on the Huawei Ascend Y200:

1. Place all the files you have downloaded to your Desktop.

2. Extract files from Root Package as well as ADB/Fastboot archives over to your Desktop.

3. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.

4. Copy the Superuser file over to the root of your SD card.

5. Once the file’s been copied, unplug your device from your PC.

6. Turn OFF your device.

7. Reboot your device into Fastboot mode by pressing and holding the Volume DOWN+Power buttons together.

8. Once inside Fastboot mode, connect your device to your PC via USB cable.

9. Double-click on the root_v5.2.bat file you extracted earlier to your Desktop.

10. Follow the on-screen instructions.

11. You’ll now have CWM Recovery installed on your device.

Great! The CWM Recovery’s been flashed on your device, now let’s see how you can root your device.

IV. Rooting the Huawei Ascend Y200:

1. Pull the battery out of your device.

2. Put it back into the device.

3. Press and hold the Volume UP+Power buttons together and you’ll reboot into Recovery mode.

4. From there, select install zip from sdcard followed by choose zip from sdcard.

5. Select the Superuser file you copied earlier to your device for flashing.

6. It’ll now flash the file on your device, should take a minute or two to finish.

7. Once it’s done, reboot your device.

8. And you’re rooted now!

Excellent! Your device has been successfully rooted and is installed with Superuser app. You can now enjoy any of your favorite root-only apps on your device without any issues!

  1. Hi … thanks for these instructions … I have followed them as closely as I can, but when I run the root_v5.2.bat file the window that pops up seems to get stuck on ‘waiting for device’ … I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong here, I rebooted in fastboot mode … but when I do that should I turn on USB storage, or go to the home screen, or just do nothing? Thanks for your help 🙂

    1. Have you installed proper drivers on your PC? Sometimes due to lack of drivers your PC doesn’t recognize your device and such errors occur.

Just head to your manufacturer’s website and get the latest drivers installed on your PC. The procedure will work fine then!

      Hope it helps!

I have followed them as closely as I can, but when I run the root_v5.2.bat file the window that pops up seems to get stuck on ‘waiting for device’ :S

        1. The Device Driver Has Not Correctly Been Installed..For Win7 Right Click On Computer (From The Start Menu) And Then Select Manage… From The Left Panel Select Device Management, Ten Again In The Right Panel Somewhere There Would Be An Unknown Device Shown As “Android” Or “Huawei U8655-1” (May Be Slightly Different) Right Click On That And Select Update Driver. Then Select The Update Over Internet Option , Wait For It To Download Then Try The bat File Again..Finally After It Works Thank Me.. 🙂

          1. Does not work. please include a video tutorial which explains better.
Is there a step missing, coz many including me face the same issue with the screen stuck on “waiting for device”

          2. Followed the instructions correctly. Using Win7..

I started the process at 1900hrs it is 1930hrs now…
Still stuck on “waiting for device”…..

  2. Hey there, today I rooted my Huawei y200 , but I used other method …. I used 2 programs, the problem is, 1 come in German and the other in Spanish, but both are pretty easy to use, but only work in windows 7 …… i tried this method too, and didn’t work for me, so if you want i can send you the programs or the links to download them …… I know how frustrating is the memory of this phone so i want to help …..

      1. Hi zaidi …. i can send you the programs or the links, but it have some instructions because one comes in spanish and the other in german…… …. i’ll write it all here and put the links… 🙂

      2. Sorry, for some reason I can’t post the links and the instructions ….. if you want I can send you the links and the instructions to your email….. one is in German and the other in Spanish,… but is simple.

    1. The “install zip from sdcard” option should work fine if you don’t get that option you mentioned above. The idea is to flash the ZIP file through recovery, you can do it by any way you want.

      Hope it helps!

  3. I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS ..BUT WHEN I RUN ROOT_v5.2.bat file ,i get struck in waiting for device…pls help..

  4. phone is flashed…it in cwm….i installed superuser file through recovery…it says that its installed….but still m not getting root acces……superuser app is not shown in phone…

  5. In recovery mod when i try to install the super user .zip file it gives an error
    Finding Update package…
    Opening Update Package…
    Verifying Update package…
    E:failed to verify whole-file signature
    E:signature verification failed
    Installation aborted
    Any Help?

    1. You Probably Have Already Solved This Now… But Anyways.. The Reason That Error Occurs Is Because Your Not In Clockworkmod Recovery, Instead Your In Android System Recovery.. Try The bat File Again..

  6. cloud_constructor

the root_v5.2.bat runs in windows xp but doesnt run in windows 7..in windows7 just pauses to waiting for device..using windows xp the precedure was a success

  7. every one must understand they are not fast boosting rightly turn off fast boost in settings remove battery , then place it again now hold volume down and power button for about 10 sec so that logo appears now the main point is logo should not disapear nor should phone start it should remain at that state as it is , i.e still logo now this is fast boost . in this condition attach the data cable and proceed 🙂 thanks

    1. It says the file is infected because it has some root exploits. Ignore any warnings and just download the file and flash it on your device. You shouldn’t have any issues.

      Thanks!

  8. there is no “install zip from sd card” option
only an “apply update from sdcard”, but it has nothing to do with zip files

    1. That probably means you don’t have a custom recovery installed on your device. You’re in stock recovery and that’s why you don’t see that option. Are you sure you successfully flashed the custom recovery on your device?
