How to Root the Samsung Mesmerize running Gingerbread

Got your Mesmerize updated with the latest Gingerbread update? Couldn’t find a way to root your device on this latest firmware? No worries, here’s how you can root your device on this latest GB firmware. Usually, when a firmware update is about to arrive, the developers gear up to root it and that’s what happened with our case. Samsung Mesmerize has been rooted on Gingerbread and this procedure shows how you can root yours, too.

I. Before You Begin:

1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.

2. This should work on Windows based PCs only.

3. You must be running Android Gingerbread.

4. Make sure you’ve proper drivers installed on your PC. If you don’t, get them from here.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Odin (Download link’s given in the second post, in section-6)

2. ClockworkMod Recovery (Download link’s given in the second post, in section-6)

3. SU ZIP (Download link’s given in the second post, in section-6)

III. Installing ClockworkMod Recovery on the Samsung Mesmerize running Gingerbread:

1. Place all the files you downloaded to your Desktop.

2. Unzip files from Odin archive over to your Desktop.

3. Double-click on the Odin executable file and it’ll launch.

4. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.

5. Copy the SU ZIP file over to the root of your SD card.

6. Once the file’s been copied, unplug your device from your PC.

7. Turn OFF your device.

8. Reboot your device into Download mode by holding down the Volume DOWN button and plugging it to your PC using USB cable.

9. Odin should recognize your device and one of the boxes in it will turn yellow.

10. Click on PDA and select the ClockworkMod Recovery file you downloaded earlier to your Desktop.

11. Hit Start and it’ll start flashing the recovery.

12. Once the recovery has been flashed, reboot your device.

Great! You’ve successfully flashed the CWM Recovery on your device, now head onto the next section to learn how you can root your device.

IV. Rooting the Samsung Mesmerize running Gingerbread:

1. Turn OFF your device.

2. Reboot your device into Recovery mode. To do so, press and hold the Volume UP+Volume DOWN+Power buttons together.

3. From the Recovery menu, select install zip from sdcard followed by choose zip from sdcard.

4. Choose the SU ZIP file you copied earlier to your device for flashing.

5. It’ll then flash the file to your device.

6. Once the flashing’s done, reboot your device.

7. And you’re rooted now!

Awesome! Your device has been successfully rooted and you now have a custom recovery as well. Here begins your journey to the world of customization!
