How to Root the Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE (Sprint)

If you’re rocking a shiny new Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE from Sprint and looking for a way to root it, then look no further as we’ve compiled the entire root guide down below. Just follow it and your device will be rooted in no time. So, let’s get started:

I. Before You Begin:

1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.

2. It’s recommended that you update your device to Jelly Bean before you begin.

3. You should have proper drivers installed on your PC. If you don’t, get them from here.

4. This flashes a custom recovery as well on your device.

5. This works on Windows based PCs only.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. TWRP Recovery (Download the Odin flashable version)

2. BusyBox (Download link’s available in the first post)

3. SuperSU (Download link’s available in the first post)

4. Odin (Download link’s given in the first post)

III. Rooting the Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE (Sprint):

1. Download and place all of the files onto your Desktop.

2. Extract files from the Odin archive over to your Desktop.

3. Connect your device to your PC via USB cable.

4. Copy both BusyBox as well as SuperSU files over to the root of your SD card.

5. Once both the files have been copied, disconnect your device from your PC.

6. Double-click on the Odin executable file and it’ll launch.

7. Hit PDA and select the TWRP Recovery file you downloaded earlier.

8. Make sure that the Auto Reboot and Re-partition boxes are unchecked.

9. Turn OFF your device.

10. Turn it back on by holding down the Volume DOWN+Power buttons together.

11. Press the Volume UP button and you will be in Download mode.

12. Plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.

13. Hit Start in Odin and it’ll begin flashing the file.

14. Once the file’s been flashed, unplug your device from your PC.

15. Pull the battery out of your device and put it back in after a couple of seconds.

16. Now press and hold the Volume UP+Power buttons together.

17. Your device should reboot into the newly installed custom recovery mode.

18. From the Recovery menu, select Install and then choose the BusyBox file you copied earlier to your device.

19. Once it’s been flashed, flash the SuperSU file using same method.

20. Once both the files have been flashed, reboot your device.

21. And you should be rooted now!

Excellent! Though the procedure was a bit lengthy, it finally paid off by flashing a recovery and rooting your device!

  1. Thanks for the instructions on how to do this. However after finishing I can’t connect to my wifi anymore. I don’t see how this would effect that, but It now will never connect. Any ideas?

  2. Has anyone else run into the issue where there isn’t even an Install option in recovery mode? I flashed twrp using odin, restarted in recovery mode, but there’s no option to install. I see the following options only:
    reboot system now
    apply update from ADB
    apply update from external storage
    wipe/factory reset
    wipe cache
    apply update from cache

    1. UPDATE: I got to the busybox file by choosing update from external storage. Phone sees it and begins the installation, then says e-signature verification failed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  3. Will all my stuff stil be on my phone and sd card after? I only want to do this so I can move apps to the sd card, is this the only way? Thanks for any responses.

  4. I screwed it up. I extracted the BusyBox and SuperSU files before putting them in my phone’s SD card. Is there any way I could get TWRP to load a non-zipped file?

    1. Hey Roy,

Have you deleted the zip versions of both of these files? If you haven’t, just move them over to your SD card.

In case you’ve deleted them, you can always re-download them using the links given in the procedure above.

TWRP can’t flash non-zipped files, unfortunately.

      Hope that helps!
