Jolla,Finland’s Newest Smartphone Company, Lands Its First Mobile Carrier

Jolla, the new Finnish-based smartphone company that was born out of Nokia, just landed its first mobile phone carrier. DNA is the third largest smartphone carrier in Finland and has just confirmed that it would be the first carrier to sell Jolla’s flagship smartphone.

According to CEO Tom Pienimaki, Jolla plans to start production of its flagship phone by the end of this year and aims at shipping out pre-orders by the end of the year. Currently, 118 countries have shown interest in the Jolla smartphone but Jolla remains focused on placing its main efforts on the European and Chinese markets.

For those of you not familiar with Jolla, it will run on the company’s own OS dubbed Sailfish. Sailfish is based on the MeeGo OS that Nokia phones ran on before they made the switch over to Microsoft Windows Phone 8. The good news is that Jolla phones will still be compatible with Android apps.

The phone is expected to sport a 4.5-inch display, dual-core processor, microSD expansion with 16GB of storage pre-installed, a 4G modem, and a replaceable battery.
