How to Overclock the Nook Color

Want to go a bit further customizing your Nook Color? Want to improve the performance of your device by overclocking it? No worries, this guide should help you do that. Overclocking is meant for all the users who have rooted and flashed a custom recovery on their device. Once overclocked, you’ll have much better performance on your device than before and this certainly helps in loading resource-intensive games easily on your device. Here’s how you can go about overclocking your Nook Color:

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have rooted your Nook Color before doing this procedure. Please head to our How to Root the Nook Color procedure first and root your device, then come back to this procedure and continue.

2. You must have TWRP Recovery installed on your device. Follow our guide on the same to do that.

II. Make a Backup:

1. Head over to the Google Play and download and install the Quick Boot app on your device.

2. Launch the app from your App Drawer.

3. Hit the Recovery option and you’ll reboot into the Recovery mode.

4. Once in Recovery, select Backup and tick-mark all the options available on the next screen.

5. Hit Swipe to Back Up and it’ll start backing up all of your data.

6. You’re done!

III. Downloading Required Files:

1. Dalingrin’s OC Kernel (Download link’s given in the first post)

IV. Flashing the Overclock Kernel on the Nook Color:

1. Place the Kernel zip file onto your Desktop.

2. Connect your device to your PC via USB cable.

3. Copy the Kernel zip over to the root of your SD card.

4. Once it has been copied, disconnect your device from your PC.

5. Open the Quick Boot app from your App Drawer.

6. Tap on the Recovery option and you will be taken to the Recovery mode.

7. Once in Recovery, select Install and choose the Dalingrin’s OC Kernel zip to be flashed on your device.

8. It’ll begin flashing the kernel on your device, should take a couple of minutes to finish.

9. Once the kernel has been flashed, reboot your device.

10. You’re done!

V. Overclocking the Nook Color:

1. Download and install either of these apps on your device:

Nook Color Tweaks

SetCPU

IncrediControl

2. Once installed, open the app from your App Drawer.

3. Now use available options in the app to increase your CPU clock speed and keep on doing so as long as your device doesn’t crash.

4. Make sure not to choose save on boot option in the app as it may crash your device.

5. Once you become comfortable with a specific clock speed, close the app.

6. You’re all set!

Excellent! Your Nook Color has been successfully overclocked and is ready to provide you with some extra speeds!

VI. Reverting Back to the Stock Kernel (Optional):

1. Open the Quick Boot app from your App Drawer.

2. Tap on the Recovery option and you’ll reboot into the Recovery mode.

3. Once there, select Restore and choose the backup file you created in one of the earlier sections.

4. Hit the Swipe to Restore option and it’ll start restoring the backup on your device.

5. Once the backup’s been restored, reboot your device.

6. You’re done!

Brilliant! You’re now back to the stock kernel with stock settings!
