How to Flash a Custom Recovery on the LG Optimus G (AT&T)

So you got your LG Optimus G from AT&T rooted and now you wish if you could flash a custom recovery on it? No problem, this guide should help you do that. Once you’ve got the recovery installed on your device, you’ll have plenty of options to customize your device, you’ll be able to flash custom ROMs, Mods, edit system files, to name a few. So here’s how you can flash a custom recovery on your device:

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have rooted your device before you can do this procedure. Please head to our How to Root the LG Optimus G (AT&T) procedure first, finish it, then come back to this procedure and continue.

2. Make sure your device has at least 60% of battery life left.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Updater (Download link’s available in the first post)

2. Terminal EmulatorQR Code (Google Play Link)

III. Flashing a Custom Recovery on the LG Optimus G (AT&T):

1. Download and place the Updater file on your Desktop.

2. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.

3. Copy the Updater file over to the root of your SD card.

4. Once the file’s been copied, disconnect your device from your PC.

5. Head over to the Google Play and download and install the Terminal Emulator app on your device.

6. Launch the app from your App Drawer.

7. Type in following commands into the app:

su
sh /mnt/sdcard/updater.sh

8. It should automatically flash the recovery on your device.

9. You’re done!

Great! You’ve successfully flashed CWM Recovery on your Optimus G. Now go ahead and flash some ROMs!

  1. Is this “updater” file a mere update of the current custom recovery software or an updated version of it? Should my device have already had a previous version of the custom recovery?
