Android’s Next Version “Kit Kat” Confirmed To Be Android 4.4 Not Android 5.0

Say farewell to Key Lime Pie and say hello to Kit Kat, Google’s next big Android version. Android head Sundar Pichai finally revealed the new name of the next major version of Android along with a reveal of the candy bar statue on the campus lawn. For anyone unfamiliar with the importance of the lawn statue here’s how it works: each major version of Android is represented by a statue outside of the Android team’s Google building. When a new statue makes an appearance we know that the next version of Android is right around the corner. The picture above also depicts Gingerbread, Jellybean and Honeycomb.

Pichai took to his Google+ to say  that he “can’t wait to release the next version of the platform that is as sweet as the candy bar that’s one of our team’s favorites.”  Picahi continued to say that Android activations have now topped 1 billion, which is a feat within itself.

Now that we can all stop calling the next iteration of Android by the wrong name we also know that it Kit Kat will introduce Android 4.4 not Android 5.0 as previously expected. Kit Kat is said to make its official debut at the end of October during a Google event that will also unveil several new Nexus devices.
