How to Root the Sony Xperia Sola Running 6.1.1.B.1.54 Firmware

Since the update to firmware version 6.1.1.B.1.54, many of our readers have been experiencing problems rooting their Sony Xperia Sola running older firmware versions.  The guide below should help sort this out and you guys should be rooted in no time.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  This procedure only works on the Sony Xperia Sola running the 6.1.1.B.1.54 firmware only; do not try this if you have anything older on your device.

2.  As always, back up everything you care about and charge your device to 75% or more before you start.

II.  Necessary Downloads

1.  flashtool-0.9.11.0-windows.exe

2.  Kernel.zip (contains both MT27i_6.1.1.B.1.10_KERNEL.ftf and MT27_6.1.1.B.1.54_KERNEL.ftf) (Link available in this post)

3. Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v31.zip (or latest version, link available in this post)

III.  Flashing the Rootable Older Kernel

1.  Double-click on flashtool-0.9.11.0-windows.exe you downloaded above and follow the on-screen instructions to install it.

2.  Extract kernel.zip to a folder on your desktop.  This should contain both the MT27i_6.1.1.B.1.10_KERNEL.ftf and MT27_6.1.1.B.1.54_KERNEL.ftf kernel files.

3.  Copy MT27i_6.1.1.B.1.10_KERNEL.ftf file you downloaded above to C:\Flashtool\firmwares on your harddrive.

4.  Open the Flashtool application after installation and click on the Flash icon (the one with the thunder symbol).

5.  You should be presented with two options:  Flashmode and Fastboot Mode.  Select Flashmode.

6.  Choose MT27i_6.1.1.B.1.10_KERNEL.ftf and click on OK.  Follow the on-screen instructions on how to boot your device into fastboot mode and connect your device.  Also, make sure “No Final Verification” is marked.

7.  Reboot device.

IV.  Rooting the Xperia Sola

1.  Enable USB Debugging on your device.  To do this, go to Setttings > Development and tick the USB debugging checkbox.

2.  Connect your device to your PC via USB.

3.  Extract the Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v9_4.zip to a folder on your desktop.

4.  From the extracted folder, double-click on RunMe.bat to start the process.

5.  Type in 1 and hit the Enter key.

6.  Follow on-screen instructions.

Your Xperia Sola should now be rooted!

 V.  Flashing the Original Kernel

Follow the same steps listed in section III of this post but choose MT27_6.1.1.B.1.54_KERNEL.ftf this time.

VI.  Unrooting the Sony Xperia Sola

1.  Follow the same instructions as in Section IV until Step 4.

2.  Key in x and hit the Enter key.

VII.  Flashing Custom Recovery (Optional)

If you would like to flash a custom recovery image in order to flash custom ROMs, head to the next procedure to learn how to do that.

If this procedure helped you please thank/donate to the original developers here.

    1. Hi Ravi,
before you start rooting, try this:
      1. Open up Task Manager on your Windows PC and click on the Processes window.
      2. Right-click on any instances of adb.exe that are running and click on kill process.
      3. Now start the rooting procedure again.
