How to Root the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G (SGH-T859)

SGH-T859 is the T-Mobile version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that supports 4G connectivity to provide users with blazing faster download and upload speeds. If you happen to have this device and are looking for a way to root it, then you’ve come to the right place. The guide below shows how you can root your T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G and get the most out of it. So follow it and get your device rooted:

I. Before You Begin:

1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.

2. This should work on Windows based PCs only.

3. You should have appropriate drivers installed on your PC. If you don’t, the drivers are attached in the root package file.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Root Package (Download link’s available in the first post)

III. Flashing a Custom Recovery on the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G (SGH-T859):

1. Download and place the Root Package archive onto your Desktop.

2. Extract files from the archive over to your Desktop.

3. Enable the USB debugging option on your device by heading to Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Development>>USB debugging.

4. Turn OFF your device.

5. Turn it back on by holding down Volume DOWN+Power buttons together.

6. Press the Volume UP button and you should enter the Download mode.

7. Plug in your device to your PC via USB cable.

8. Double-click on the Odin executable file available on your Desktop and it’ll launch.

9. Click on PDA and select the recovery-cwm_4.0.0.4-sam-tab-10.1.tar.md5 file available on your Desktop.

10. Hit Start in the Odin and it’ll begin flashing the recovery on your device.

11. Once the recovery’s been flashed, reboot your device.

Great! You’ve successfully flashed CWM Recovery on your device, let’s root that beast now!

IV. Rooting the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G (SGH-T859):

1. Unplug your device from your PC.

2. Disable the USB debugging option on your device by going to Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Development>>USB debugging.

3. Plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.

4. Copy the Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip file over to the root of your SD card.

5. Once the file’s been copied, disconnect your device from your PC.

6. Turn OFF your device.

7. Turn it back on by holding down Volume DOWN+Power buttons together.

8. Select Recovery from the options available on your screen.

9. Once in Recovery, select install zip from sdcard followed by choose zip from sdcard.

10. Chose the Root zip you copied in Step-4 to be flashed on your device.

11. It’ll begin flashing the zip on your device, it shouldn’t take too long to finish.

12. Once the zip has been flashed, reboot your device.

13. You’re all done!
