How to Overclock the Samsung Galaxy S4 (Sprint)

Think your device’s power has been limited by the software? Well, you’re true to an extent. Often times, manufacturers cap the limit of the device’s performance so as to decrease the chance of getting the device crashed (usually happens when you load a resource-intensive game). But some of you (including us) think that there shouldn’t be any limit of the performance and some talented developers have come forth to escape such users. You can now overclock your device to increase its performance and make it work to the highest speed it can. The guide below shows how you can overclock your Samsung Galaxy S4 (Sprint) and get the best speeds out of it:

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have rooted your device before doing this procedure. Please head to our How to Root the Samsung Galaxy S4 procedure first and root your device.

2. You must have CWM Recovery installed on your device. Our guide on the same should help you do that.

3. This works on the TouchWIZ ROMs only.

II. Make a Backup:

1. Start off by downloading the Quick Boot app from the Google Play to your device.

2. Once it’s been downloaded and installed, open it from your App Drawer.

3. Hit the option that says Recovery and your device will reboot into the CWM Recovery mode.

4. Once in Recovery, select backup and restore followed by backup.

5. It’ll create a backup of your current firmware so you can restore it later.

6. You’re done!

III. Downloading Required Files:

1. KT-SGS4 Kernel (Download link’s given in the first post)

IV. Flashing the Overclock Kernel on the Samsung Galaxy S4 (Sprint):

1. Download and place the KT-SGS4 Kernel zip onto your Desktop. Do NOT extract it.

2. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.

3. Copy the Kernel zip over to the root of your SD card. It should take a couple of seconds only.

4. Once it’s been copied, disconnect your device from your PC.

5. Launch the Quick Boot app from your App Drawer.

6. Hit the Recovery option and you should reboot into the Recovery mode.

7. From the Recovery menu, select install zip from sdcard followed by choose zip from sdcard.

8. Choose the KT-SGS4 Kernel zip to be flashed on your device.

9. It’ll start flashing the Kernel on your device, shouldn’t take too long to finish.

10. Once the Kernel’s been flashed, reboot your device.

11. You’re done!

V. Overclocking the Samsung Galaxy S4 (Sprint):

1. Download and install one of these apps on your device:

SetCPU

No-frills CPU Control

2. Once installed, launch the app from your App Drawer.

3. Now increase the clock speed using options available in the app. Keep doing it as long as your device’s stable.

4. Make sure to not choose save on boot option in the app as it lead to crash of your device.

5. Once you’re fine with a specific clock speed, close the app.

6. And you’re now overclocked!

Brilliant! Your device’s been successfully overclocked and is waiting to be loaded with the resource-intensive games you have with yourself!

VI. Reverting Back to Stock Kernel (Optional):

1. Open the Quick Boot app from your App Drawer.

2. Hit the Recovery option and you’ll reboot into the Recovery mode.

3. Once in Recovery, select backup and restore followed by restore.

4. Choose the most recent backup you have there to be restored on your device.

5. And it’ll begin restoring the backup on your device.

6. Once it’s been restored, reboot your device.

7. You’re done!

Great! You just removed the overclock kernel from your device and you now have your original kernel back on your device!
