How to Flash a Custom Recovery on the Zen Ultrafone 701HD
So you just rooted your Zen Ultrafone 701HD and now wish to flash a custom recovery on it? No problem, this guide should help you do that. While root gives you the ability to install root-only apps, a custom recovery helps you flash custom ROMs and Mods. So you can change your whole user-experience on your device. Here’s how you can go about doing that:
I. Before You Begin:
1. You must be rooted before you can do this procedure. Please head to our How to Root the Zen Ultrafone 701HD procedure first, finish it, then return to this procedure and continue.
2. You should have appropriate drivers installed on your PC. If you don’t, get the latest drivers from this post.
3. This only works on Windows based PCs.
II. Downloading Required Files:
1. SP Flash Tool (It’s attached in the first post)
2. Scatter-file (It’s attached in the first post)
3. CWM Recovery (Download link’s given in the first post)
III. Flashing a Custom Recovery on the Zen Ultrafone 701HD:
1. Download and place all three files onto your Desktop.
2. Extract files from SP Flash Tool archive over to your Desktop.
3. Double-click on the SP Flash Tool executable and it’ll open.
4. Click on Scatter-loading in the tool and choose the Scatter file available on your Desktop.
5. You’ll see a number of checkboxes on your screen. Make sure to only check the one that says RECOVERY, uncheck all the others.
6. Hit Download button in the tool.
7. Turn OFF your device.
8. Pull the battery out of your device and put it back in after a couple of seconds. Do NOT turn on your device.
9. Plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.
10. The tool should automatically start the flashing process.
11. Once the recovery’s been flashed, reboot your device.
12. You’re all set!
