How to Keep your Internet Connection Live While the Screen is Off in Android (Video)

There’s a great way to watch Netflix videos on your TV screen (or any screen with HDMI) without a Chromecast, Roku or Apple TV. You can purchase a cheap micro-USB-to-HDMI cable to connect your phone to the TV, and just like that, you’re watching Netflix on the big screen from your phone. However, you’ll notice that your phone’s screen won’t dim or turn off while it’s playing/streaming, which is a problem if your phone isn’t connected to a power source. The display will drain your battery quicker than you can ask “why hasn’t wireless power been invented yet.” Netflix will alsoScreen Standby is a tweak that lets you automatically dim the screen after a opening an app that streams, but doesn’t run if you lock.

I. Root Your Android Device

To do this procedure, you must be rooted. If you aren’t, you can head to our Rooting How To’s section and pick the manufacturer you have, pick the device you have, pick the latest “how to root” method for your device and software version, finish that and then return here to continue (once you see SuperUser or SuperSU in you app drawer you are rooted).

II. Install Screen Standby

1. Open the Play Store.

2. Tap Search on the top right.

3. Type in Screen Standby.

4. Tap on Screen Standby when it shows up.

5. Tap Install in the top right corner.

6. Tap Accept when prompted.

III. Setup Screen Standby

1. Tap Open when Screen Standby has finished installing.

2. Tap Skip Wizard on bottom left.

3. Tap the Settings icon (with a wrench) in the center right.

4. Tap One Two Dim mode.

5. Tap the check box on Enable One Two Dim mode.

6. Tap Set Timer.

7. Adjust how much time you want Screen Standby to wait before dimming your screen.

8. Tap your phone’s Back button.

9. Scroll down to App Detection.

  • You can use other detection triggers, such as HDMI and Dock detection, and configure the options within their respective menus.

10. Tap the check box next to Auto detect app.

  • If this is your first time using Screen Standby, you’ll be prompted to give it root access. Tap Remember forever and tap Allow on the bottom right.

11. Select the app you want to work with Screen Standby.

IV. Use Screen Standby

1. Tap your phone’s home button once you’ve configured the tweak.

2. Tap to open the app you chose to work with the tweak.

  • Upon opening the app, the timer you set in the Settings menu will count down to dim your screen.

  1. Anyway I can lock the screen but an app still runs without shutting off, will help in games like jungle heat or clash if the clans so I wont get attacked if its active
