How to Unroot the HTC One Mini

Perhaps you’re done playing with root and custom ROMs on your Android device? Regardless of the reason, it’s usually pretty easy to unroot your device and go back to the stock firmware.

Some of the reasons for unrooting your HTC One Mini are:

  • Sending in the device for warranty (most, but not all unrooting procedures reinstate the manufacturer warranty if you had one before rooting).
  • Starting over (simply undoing everything you did while rooted so you can have a clean slate to start over).
  • Fix any issues (Maybe rooting messed something up? No problem, unrooting will take care of it for you).

Ready to get started? Here’s how to unroot the HTC One Mini:

I. Before You Begin

1. You should have rooted your device using the procedure given here.

2. This should only work on Windows based PCs.

II. Downloading Required Files

1. Download Fastboot and save it to your Desktop.

1. Extract files from Fastboot by right-clicking on it and selecting Extract here.

2. Turn ON USB debugging on your device by heading to Menu > Settings > Developer options > USB debugging.

3. Plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.

4. Launch a Command Prompt Window on your Desktop by holding down Shift and right-clicking on any blank area on your screen and selecting Open command window here.

5. Type in following command into the Command Prompt Window:

adb reboot bootloader

6. Your device should reboot into fastboot mode.

7. Once there, issue the following command:

fastboot oem lock

8. It should relock the bootloader on your device.

9. You’re done!

IV. Unrooting the HTC One Mini

1. Make sure USB debugging is enabled on your device and your device’s connected to your PC.

2. Double-click on Stock RUU executable and it’ll open.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions for flashing stock firmware on your device.

4. Once done, your device should be unrooted.

5. You’re all done!

All set! You are now running stock firmware on your HTC One Mini and have unrooted it.

Want to try again? You can always reroot your device by heading to our Rooting How To’s section, finding your device, and doing the How to Root listed for it there.

    1. Hello Will,

The file that you’re supposed to download should be in .exe format. Please check out the RUU page and you should have a version that ends with .exe extension.

      Hope it helps!

          1. hi,
I had a look, but to download I need to buy membership which I don’t really want to do. Thanks anyway. But a new problem have come up and now my phone is stuck on the white HTC loading screen and stays like this with no animation or anything. Is it bricked or something?

          2. Hi Will,

I see. Then maybe you’ll have to buy the membership. We’ll let you know if we’ve any alternative ways to get the file.

Did you flash a custom ROM on your device that you think has caused your device to show the HTC white loading screen? If so, only a Stock RUU can save you.

            Thanks!

          3. hi,
I am considering buying the 1 month membership so I can download this. Do you think it will get me out of this situation? I don’t really want to waste £10 on something that doesn’t actually work. I didn’t try a custom ROM, I was just in TWRP and was going to do a factory reset when the screen went dark, then it popped up with the green HTC logo and the white background, and nothing else. Now it has been stuck like this for a couple days, no change. I am considering sending it in to be fixed and paying the price.
            Thanks.

          4. Hi Will,

Well, the Stock RUU is supposed to get your device back to stock (to its factory state). However, we don’t guarantee that it’ll solve your device’s issues as they may be different than what a Stock RUU can solve.

Personally, I think flashing the RUU will help you get your device working once again. Again, it’s not guaranteed.

            Thanks!

  1. Double-click on Stock RUU executable and it’ll open.
    3. Follow the on-screen instructions for flashing stock firmware on your device i dont understand how to do it plz help
