Rooting is the process of gaining administrative rights on your Android device.  Once we root our Android device, we can then make changes to it to customize it well beyond what it normally can do.

Once you have root access on your LG Optimus F6 (MetroPCS), you’ll be able to:

  • Remove apps that were preinstalled by your carrier/manufacturer from your device.
  • Free up storage space (because of the above benefit).
  • Increase battery life (apps that might have been running constantly can be removed).
  • Increase performance (after removing apps that are always running, the device will be less bogged down and run smoother).
  • Update to a new version of Android (by flashing a custom recovery/ROM, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).
  • Tons of other customizations when you use your new found administrative rights to flash a custom ROM (again, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).

Interested? Here’s how to root your LG Optimus F6 (MetroPCS):

I. Before You Begin

1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.

2. This procedure only works on Windows based PCs.

II. Downloading Required Files

1. Download Optimus F6 Root and save it to your Desktop.

III. Rooting the LG Optimus F6 (MetroPCS)

1. Extract files from Optimus F6 Root by right-clicking on it and selecting Extract here.

2. Enable USB debugging on your device by heading to Menu > Settings > Developer options > USB debugging.

3. Plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.

4. Pull down the notification bar and choose Media as the connection type.

5. Double-click on install.bat and follow the on-screen instructions for rooting your device.

6. Once it’s done, you should be rooted.

7. You’re all done!

    When it asks me to open supersu on my phone, I do that , but it says there is no su binary installed and supersu cannot install it. This is a problem! How do I fix this?

      If you updated your device to the new B12 software/firm ware update the root method above will not work. Goto the Android forums to get a better idea on how to root after the you’ve updated.

    will it erase all the data i have on it? will i then be able to put all the apps that i can’t import into my SD card, into the SD card? because i only have 1.47 G on my phone.

      The procedure above doesn’t wipe off the data on your device, however, it is recommended that you take a backup first before doing the procedure. Just in case.

      Yes, you’ll be able to move apps to SD card by using some third-party apps from Google Play.

        third-party apps from Google play? i got the Apps2SD app and i still can’t move certain apps to my SD card, i don’t know why. is there a way i still try to move them?

          Hello,

          By third-party apps I refer to the apps that aren’t originally developed by Google or Android.

          Well, some apps only work properly when they’re on the internal storage and therefore they CAN’T be moved to the SD card.

    I bought a Metro-Pcs LG Optimus F6 about 2 months ago ( March 2014 )
    I would like to root my phone, but it keeps pushing the below notification.

    SYSTEM UPDATE
    A system update is ready to install. Your Android device
    will restart and install the update.
    You won’t be able to make any calls, including
    emergency calls, during installation.
    (INSTALL LATER) (MORE INFO) (INSTALL NOW)

    When i choose the MORE INFO option it says the below.

    ANDROID SYSTEM UPDATE
    MetroPCS is pleased to provide a new, free software update for your Android Smartphone.
    This software update includes important software improvements. To install the software,
    make sure the battery is fully charged and select “Restart & Install at the bottom of this
    screen. Please do not turn off your device while the update is installing.
    (RESTART & INSTALL)

    ******Below is my phone’s information*****
    ANDROID VERSION
    4.1.2

    BASEBAND VERSION
    M8930G-AAAATAZM-3.2.25033

    KERNEL VERSION
    3.4.0

    BUILD NUMBER

    My questions are:
    (1) Do i root the phone without installing the update period?
    (2) Do i root the phone then install the update?
    (3) Do I install the update then root the phone?
    Please advise me as to the proper way to go so I won’t have any issues.
    Are there any other things I need to be aware of or do.

    PLEASE NOTE:
    I have tried to research and find the answer to my questions, but it became very confusing.
    Seeing that I will be using the guide on this website, I am seeking some assistance here.

      Hello Dwight,

      Thank you for posting your question on our site.

      Well, the method above should easily root your device if it runs the I firmware. If you update your device and it patches the root exploit, you wouldn’t be able to root your device using the procedure above. Since we do not know what version the update will put your device on, we can’t say whether this method would work or not for you.

      I’d suggest you going with the first option: Root the phone and do NOT install the update. It’s the best choice for you.

    Thank you for your quick response to my below listed post/ questions.

    I understand that option #1 would be my best option.

    I have never accepted any updates since I bought the phone, however I would like to confirm that based on my phone’s current software information which was provided in my post below, that using this root method should work without any issues if done correctly, and exactly as the root guide has provided.

    I just want to be sure that the current software state of my phone will work.

    I’ve tried rooting my device using this method but my phone never reads “Allow USB debugging?”, so I’m unable to move on. The box is checked and my notifications bar says I’m in debugging mode. Online I read that the 12b update doesn’t allow rooting like the 10i one. What should I do?

    having issues with supersu. We need a fix for it. What ever update metro and tmobile forced on us is not allowing supersu to update. If this issue could be resolved then it could be possible to root this device again. btw factory reset of the device then attempt to root will not work.

    I followed the instructions to the letter but when I open install.bat it says its for the Samsung Galaxy S4. What gives?

      Hello Julio,

      The method that you’re using to root your device is called Safe Root method and it works for a number of devices available out there. So don’t worry if it says it’s for Galaxy S4, it should work fine with your Optimus F6 (MetroPCS) as well.

    Is this method still relevant? There’s another “How to Root F6 (MetroPCS)” page on this website that links to towelroot. Also it seems like the link labeled “Optimus F6 Root” in this article directs me to a forum discussing towelroot. Is that the go-to method for rooting this phone now? I’m entirely new to rooting and have no idea what I’m doing, so I’d appreciate some help/consistency. Thanks!
