How to Set a Custom Ringtone on the HTC One (M8)

Setting up a custom ringtone for your HTC One (M8) is a simple way to customize your device. Once you find the ringtone you’re looking for, there are some neat tweaks you can use to get your phone ringing just as you like it.

I. Finding a Ringtone

1. Do a search for “ringtones” from your HTC One (M8), or just find an MP3 of a favorite song.

2. Download it to your device.

Setting the Ringtone

1. Open the settings menu from the pull-down notification shade.

2. Click on “Sound”.

Tap Sound

3. Under “Incoming calls”, select “Ringtone” (if the option isn’t available to select, make sure you have your volume set to a level of your choosing).

4. Tap the + sign at the top right of the screen.

Tap Plus

5. Select the song you just downloaded to add it to the list of available ringtones.

6. Select the song you just added to the list of ringtones &  hit “Apply”.

Set Ringtone for Specific Contacts

1. Open the People app.

Select People

2. Select the contact you want to set a ringtone for.

3. Tap ringtone.

4. Tap the plus sign at the top right.

5. Select the new sound/ringtone you want to add to the list of ringtones on the device.

6. Select it again and hit apply.

III. Set a Custom Notification Sound

1. Download ES File Manager from the Play Store.

2. In the ES File Manager app, click on the Downloads.

3. Long press on the downloaded MP3 you’d like to use for a ringtone.

6. On the bottom right, select the More three-button menu.

7. Select Copy to from the menu options.

8. From the list, select the Media folder.

9. Select the Audio subfolder.

10. Select the Notifications subfolder. Click OK.

11. Navigate to your device settings menu and select Sounds.

12. Select Notification sounds.

13. Select your track from the list and click Apply.

IV. Set a Custom Alarm

1. Open the Settings menu on your HTC One (M8).

4. Click the “+” on the top right.

5. Select your downloaded MP3 from the list and click OK.

Setting new ringtones, notification, or alarm sound might be old-school tricks, but they’re still some of the best. Even though we’ve been doing this since the early days of feature phones, it’s still a fun way to customize your device, and a great way to know get the exact experience you want.

  1. For me is not opening ringtones notifications and alarms…cant open them at all… (after last update of this fail android kitkat..)
