How to Control Your TV with the HTC One (M8)

When you’re sitting on the couch, there are definitely times when you go wanting for that remote. The big, bulky remote is nowhere to be found… and that show you hate is coming on! Don’t worry — you can still turn the channel, just grab your HTC One (M8)!

Getting your TV working with your HTC One (M8) can be a bit of work at first, but once you’re over the initial hump — it’s as easy as working any other remote. Here’s how it’s done:

I. Setup the TV

1. In your app drawer, find and open the TV app.

2. Press the “remote” icon toward the top right.

5. Turn your TV off, and click next. The app will attempt to turn it on.

Once your TV turns on via your phone, the proper IR code has been identified and saved. Now you can control your TV with your phone. If you’ve got different makes and models of TVs, it’s important to add each one you want to control — not only for the IR code, but each remote interface is different.

II. Setup the Cable Box

1. In the app drawer, open the TV app.

2. Select the “Remote” icon on the top right.

3. Select “Cable Box” from the list of components you can set up. Click “next”.

Note: You may be prompted to set up your TV again. It’s the process listed above, but in our tests, it has both skipped the TV set up for the cable box, and asked that you run through it again. If you are prompted to set up the TV again, do so then proceed to step 4.

4. Select your brand of cable box from the list, then select “next”.

5. Turn on your TV, making sure it’s on a live broadcast, not Netflix or a similar service.

6. Like setting up your TV, the app will ask that you run through a few commands. Channel control, menu, and other commands will be tested here.

7. Once you’ve successfully run through the prompts, you’ll be re-directed to a remote interface. Now you can enjoy TV, right from your HTC One (M8)!

Now, the cable box is setup, you’ll get the channel guide on the HTC One M8 now, and updates when your favorite shows air!
