How to Take a Screenshot with the Samsung Galaxy S5

Taking a screenshot is the easiest method to capture and/or share what you see on your screen. You might think you’ve got the practice down to a science, but if you’ve got a Galaxy S5 — there might be a better way. A special screenshot method for the Galaxy S5 means you won’t even have to touch buttons at all!

Here, we’ll walk you through the two methods for taking a screenshot with the Samsung Galaxy S5. One we’re pretty sure you know about, but the other might blow your mind. It’s not new to Samsung, but if you’re new to the Galaxy smartphone in your hand, set it down for a minute and check out what you can do!

The Regular Method

1. Get the screen you want to capture just as you want it.

2. Simultaneously press the power and home button. It might take a bit of getting used to, but once you master the timing, it’s just like riding a bike.

Note: If you want to view the screenshot, it’s immediately available in your notification tray, and stored in your gallery app.

Swipe to Snap!

This method asks that you activate it in settings, which is what we’ll walk you through:

1. Head into your settings menu.

2. Find the “Motion” header. Select “Motion and gestures”.

3. Select “Palm swipe to capture”.

4. Make sure it’s toggled to “on”.

Once you get to the screen you want to capture, simply drag your hand across the screen as seen above. Be sure you actually drag your pinky finger across the screen, though. Otherwise, you may not capture the moment.

Be aware this doesn’t work well for capturing the home screen, or other side-to-side scrolling screens. The gesture often thinks you’re scrolling instead of capturing a screenshot.

How often do you take screenshots? Did you know about the swipe-to-snap method? Tell us all about it in the comments section below!
