Video: How to Jailbreak iOS 8.1.2 (TaiG Method) (Updated 01.18.15)

UPDATED 01.18.15 – Works for iOS 8.1.2 and updated the URL for the english version of Taig.

Lately the Chinese have been on a roll with jailbreaks. First Pangu for jailbreaking iOS 8 and iOS 8.1, and now another Chinese developer team called TaiG has a new jailbreak for iOS 8.1.2 (and iOS 8.2 Beta).

As with the Pangu and most jailbreaking tools, it’s fairly simple to do. Plug in the iPhone, turn off some settings, and click a button. Viola! Jailbroken, Cydia installed, and you’re good to go.

It is important to note, however, that this is another early jailbreak and from a team we aren’t used to seeing. I’ve used it and it does in fact work, but as with all new jailbreaks, some tweaks won’t work until they are updated, and it’s up to you if you trust the team’s jailbreak.

With all of that out of the way, here’s how to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch running iOS 8.1.2:

I. Backup Your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch

Always make backups for jailbreaking, just common sense I think.

1. Open iTunes on your computer.

2. Plug in your device via USB cable.

3. Click on your device in the left sidebar (if it isn’t showing, then click on View > Show Sidebar).

4. Click Backup.

II. Restore Your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch to iOS 8.1.2 (Optional)

This is optional but always recommended with any jailbreak –a clean install of iOS. You can skip this section and try without it, but if you run into issues, come back to this and do it before trying again with the rest of the tutorial.

If iOS 8.1.2 is the latest version of iOS at the time you are doing this tutorial, then follow this:

1. In iTunes, click on Restore.

If iOS 8.2 or higher comes out or if you are already jailbroken do this instead:

1. Head to my video tutorial on how to unjailbreak the iPhone (even if you are not jailbroken) as it’s the best way to restore the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch to iOS 8.1.2. Just make sure to select iOS 8.1.2 from the firmware when downloading it.

III. Prepare the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch for Jailbreaking

There are a few settings that need to be adjusted before we do the jailbreak in order for it to work properly.

1. On the device, go to Settings > iCloud and turn Off Find My Phone.

2. Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and turn off your passcode entirely.

3. Pull up the Control Center from the bottom of the device screen and tap the Airplane icon to enable Airplane mode.

IV. Jailbreak the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch Using TaiG

At the moment, TaiG only has a Windows program for jailbreaking, so you need to either be on Windows or be using a virtual machine running Windows on your mac.

1. Download TaiG from the link below and save it to your desktop.

TaiG

2. Once downloaded, right-click the TaiG .zip and select Extract.

3. Right click the new TaiG exe file and click Run As Administrator.

4. Once it recognizes your device, uncheck the second checkbox to stop it from also installing the TaiG app store (which you don’t need), but make sure Cydia is checked still.

5. Click the big green button and hold on to your horses.

6. Once it reboots, you’ll see Cydia on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. Enjoy!

Did it work for you? Are there any tweaks that work with iOS 8.1.2 yet?
