How to Unroot the Samsung Galaxy S6 / Galaxy S6 Edge (Video)

Perhaps you want to send the phone in for warranty? Or maybe you need to sell it? Either way, it’s probably wise to unroot the device before doing either. In order to unroot the Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge, we’re going to be utilizing Odin, Samsung’s own device flashing program, to flash the stock firmware back on to the device. Since this is right in line with the sort of thing this program was originally intended for, it’s actually pretty straight forward. Here’s how to do it.

Unroot the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge

I. Before You Begin

1. This only works on Windows as the tool we’re using is a Windows program that Samsung uses to flash their devices.

2. Perform a backup of your device (saving any photos to your computer, syncing with Google, etc.) before beginning.

3. Install the Samsung Drivers from here if you don’t already have them installed.

II. Unroot the Galaxy S6 / Root the Galaxy S6 Edge

1. If you don’t already have it from doing our How to Root the Samsung Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge tutorial, then download the AutoRoot program from ChainFire’s page here (doesn’t matter for what version of the phone it’s for so long as it’s for the S6 or S6 Edge, we’re just going to use the Odin program in it, not the firmware file and just care about it being the latest Odin program) and save it to your desktop.

2. Extract the zip file to your desktop.

3. Right-click the Odin.exe file and select Run As Administrator.

4. On your phone, go to Settings > About Device and look for your model number.

This method only works on specific models at the moment so you need to make sure your model matches or you should NOT attempt this.

5. Download the stock firmware for your specific device from one of these places and extract it to your desktop:

Samsung Galaxy S6 (T-Mobile) | Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (T-Mobile)
All Other Versions (head here and choose device model number – i.e. SGH-G925F – from the drop down at the top left to find the firmware for your device, download it, then extract it to your desktop)

6. Power off your phone.

7. Put your device into Odin mode by holding down Volume Down, Power, and Home at the same time until it shows download on the screen.

8. Plug the device in via USB cable to the computer.

9. In Odin, click AP and select the .tar.md5 file inside the stock firmware file we extracted to the desktop.

10. Click Start.

11. It’ll take a while, but once it’s all set, you’ll be back to stock. Enjoy!

All done, hope that helped some people that might have been needing it. Let me know how it all went down in the comments below.
