1. To start, power on your Apple Watch and choose a language.

2. Tap Start Pairing. A nebulous, pointillistic orb will pop up on the Watch’s screen.

3. Make sure that your iPhone (5 or later) is updated to the latest iOS 8.3 and that bluetooth is turned on.

4. Locate and open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone (if you’re thinking, “Hey, I never downloaded that.” Apple put it there automatically when you updated to iOS 8.3 –whether you intended to buy an Apple Watch or not).

5. Tap Start Pairing.

6. Follow the steps on your iPhone screen and align the Apple Watch under your iPhone’s camera, within the yellow box.

7. Tap Set Up as New. (You can also choose Restore from Backup if this ain’t your first rodeo.)

8. Choose your wrist preference: Left or Right (this actually adjusts the screen orientation).

9. Check out the Terms and Conditions window and tap Agree.

10. Enter your Apple ID on the next screen.

11. Cycle through the next few screens to review your settings for Usage and Diagnostics, Location Services, and Siri.

12. Create a Passcode for your Apple Watch. (Maybe the threat of a security breach has you up in a cold sweat late at night? Fear not because you also have the option to create a Long Passcode for more security.)

13. You’ll be asked if you want your iPhone to unlock Apple Watch. This means that anytime your iPhone is unlocked, your Apple Watch will be as well.

14. The penultimate step has you decide whether you’d like to sync all your iPhone apps that work with Apple Watch. Or, tap Choose Later to manually sync apps to your Watch.
