The LG Revolution was one smart CDMA device when it debuted last May on Verizon, before it was pushed down [...]

The LG Revolution was one smart CDMA device when it debuted last May on Verizon, before it was pushed down under by the dual-core devices that hit the markets. While the device may have lost its shine this year, here’s a chance for current owners to get a bit more from this oldish device, by rooting it and flashing ClockworkMod Recovery – the only way to go if your next stop is custom ROMs. Read on then to know how to do both of these procedures in one go.

I. Before You Begin

1. Make sure you have the necessary drivers installed before you begin.

2. This procedure is written with the Verizon version of the LG Revolution running Gingerbread in mind; if you are running Froyo, make sure you update to Android 2.3 using the LG Mobile Support Tool before you proceed with this guide.

II. Necessary Downloads

LG Revo All in One Package

III. Rooting the LG Revolution

1. Extract the LGRevoAllinOnePkg.zip to a folder on your desktop.

2. At this point, if you haven’t installed the necessary drivers already, you can install them now by running LG VZW_United_WHQL_v2.3.1.exe from Drivers folder in your newly extracted LGRevoAllinOnePkg folder.

3. Enable USB Debugging on your device. Go to Settings > Application > Development and then check the USB Debugging tickbox to do this.

4. Connect your device to your PC using a microUSB cable.

5. From the extracted LGRevoAllinOnePkg folder, run Root&RecoveryAIO.bat.

6. To just root the device, select Option 1 and follow the on-screen instructions to completion; if you want to root and install ClockworkMod Recovery at the same time, select Option 2 and hit Enter.

Now, sit back and wait for your device to be rooted!!

IV. Unrooting the LG Revolution

1. Open up the tool by double-clicking the Root&RecoveryAIO.bat.

2. Select Option 4 if you have rooted your phone or Option 6 if you have installed ClockworkMod Recovery also, and hit Enter.

All credits go to mtmichaelson on XDA for packing everything into a nice little tool!! We urge you to donate to him or at the least, say a thank you if you thought this was useful!!

The CSL Mi357 is an Android device that is affordable and available in some Asian regions and while its specs won’t blow anyone away, it does satisfy your needs if all you want is a simple droid running Gingerbread. This guide will show how to root this specific device and take a bit more utility out of this simple device.

I. Before You Begin

1. Make sure you have ADB drivers installed. If you haven’t done this already, look to our How-To on this to guide you.

2. You won’t absolutely need to back your data up, but do so just in case you run into problems.

II. Download the Necessary Files

DooMLorD zergRush Tool v.4

III. Rooting the CSL Mi357

1. Enable USB Debugging on the device. To do this, head to Settings > Applications > USB Debugging and check the tickbox next to it.

2. Enable installation of applications from unknown sources (non-Market apps). To do this, go to Settings > Applications and check the Unknown Sources tickbox.

3. Connect the Mi357 to your Windows-based PC. Windows should automatically load or install drivers at this point if you haven’t done so already.

4. Extract DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip to a folder on your desktop.

5. From the extracted folder, click on runme.bat to run the root tool.

Your Mi357 should reboot when the whole procedure is complete. Once the device reboots and the tool confirms that the procedure is done, look for the Superuser app in the app drawer or download the Root Checker app to confirm root access.

All credits go to DooMLorD and if you feel he deserves something more than thanks, be sure to donate!

This guide will show you how to root the Huawei Blaze, a low-end Android smartphone, and also install ClockworkMod Recovery, which should enable backups via Nandroid, flash a custom ROM and much more that the ClockworkMod Recovery usually offers. Read on to know how.

I. Before You Begin

1. There have been problems reported while running the tool used in this guide on Windows XP, so make sure you have a Windows 7-based PC.

2. Make sure you have the necessary drivers installed before you begin. If you are unsure about this, check the next section to download and install the proper drivers.

3. This solution works only on a Blaze running Gingerbread (Android 2.3.x).

II. Necessary Downloads

1. Automatic Root Enabler.

2. U8510 USB Drivers.

III. Rooting the Huawei Blaze

1. Enable USB Debugging on your device. To do this, go to Settings > Application > Development and then check the USB Debugging tickbox.

2. Connect your device to the PC using a microUSB cable. Windows should install the drivers at this stage if it hasn’t done so already.

3. Double-click on Automatic-Root-Enabler–U8510–v1.1.exe you downloaded above. The tool should now automatically begin rooting and flashing CWM Recovery to your device.

When the Automatic Root Enabler tool displays a message saying, “Root permissions enabled. Enjoy!“, your device will be rooted and have ClockworkMod Recovery installed!!

All thanks go to lowskill on the Android-Hilfe forums for making it so easy!! Be sure to thank him (in German if you know the language!) or donate if you can!!

The Samsung Galaxy S 4G is a slightly tweaked version of the Vibrant on T-Mobile and is similar in most [...]

The Samsung Galaxy S 4G is a slightly tweaked version of the Vibrant on T-Mobile and is similar in most respects to the original device except for its 4G support. This how-to will show how to root this device running Gingerbread 2.3.6 and if your device is still on Froyo 2.2.1, help you upgrade to Android 2.3.6 and then root it.

I. Upgrading to Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread

Skip this section if you are already running Android 2.3.6.

1. Download and Kies Mini.

2. Make sure USB Debugging is not enabled on your device. Go to Settings > Application > Development and then uncheck the USB Debugging tickbox to do this.

3. Open Kies Mini and connect your device to the computer.

4. Select Kies when your device asks for the type of connection.

5. Once the device is recognized and the necessary drivers are installed, click Upgrade.

Once your device reboots, it should be running Gingerbread 2.3.6.

II. Backing up the efs Folder

The files in the efs folder at the root of your device’s file system are very important and if anything should go wrong, these files will aid in getting your device working again. Here’s how to back them up.

1. Download and install File Expert.

2. Open File Expert on your device and click on My Files > Phone Internal Storage.

3. You should now see a folder named efs here. Tick the checkbox next to it and then click on Copy. Now, navigate to a folder on your SD card and paste it there. You can then connect your device to a computer and back it up in a safe location on your PC.

III. Rooting the Galaxy S 4G

1. Download SuperOneClick.

2. Extract the SuperOneClickv2.3.1-ShortFuse.zip you download above to a folder on your desktop.

3. Enable USB Debugging on your device. Go to Settings > Application > Development and then check the USB Debugging tickbox to do this.

4. Connect your device to your PC.

5. Double-click SuperOneClick.exe from the extracted folder.

6. Click on Donate Later.

7. Finally, click on Root.

Your Galaxy S 4G should be rooted once it reboots!!

All credits go to shortfuse for creating SuperOneClick tool and to lumin30 for clearing up the finer points of the whole procedure!! Be sure to thank or donate to them (you can click on Donate Now on the SuperOneClick application when prompted) if you liked this procedure!!

Dock icons can provide handy shortcuts to your most used apps. Although the phone comes with four pre-selected shortcuts, it’s very easy on a Motorola device to change these out for something you use more frequently.

I. Changing Icons

1. Hold your finger down on the app you want to change; you will feel a small vibration if you have haptic feedback enabled.

2. A menu will come up that says ‘Add to Dock’ at the top, and will have a list of app shortcuts.

3. Select the app you want in the dock and it will immediately change.

4. Be careful not to replace the apps shortcut, or you will not have access to your apps menu.

There are several free and cheap applications to use for task management on your phone. Of course, since Android was purchased and subsequently developed by Google and the Open Handset Alliance, applications native to Google work well on Android devices. This tutorial will show you how to merge a task list from Google Calendar to your phone using the GTasks application.

Before You Begin

1. If you do not have a Google account, go to mail.google.com and create an account. The website will give you step-by-step directions.

2. If you have a Google account, log in to your account and select “Calendar” from the top of the screen, which will provide you with a link to your Google online calendar.

3. Sync your Google Calendar with your phone.

Adding Tasks Using Google Account

1. When you sign in to your Google Calendar (www.google.com/calendar) page, there is a “Tasks” list to the right. It will have the same name as your gmail account.

2. Add individual tasks to the list using the “+” at the bottom of the list.

Every Android device comes equipped with a news app that allows you to receive multiple news feeds in one location. By figuring out how to manage news feeds you will no longer have to download a hundred different news apps.

I. Getting Subscriptions

1. The first way to access the News app is to add a widget to one of your screens. To do this hold your finger down on an empty spot on the screen and select Widgets. You will see a widget called News, click this to add it to the screen.

2. You will be asked to name the widget and select how long you want items to display; the default is one day.

3. Underneath the display length, you will see ‘Subscriptions,’ with a green arrow; press the arrow to bring up the options.

4. Here you will see the ‘Add feed’ menu with a few different options. Bundles selects different news feeds based on topic, which can be further edited to include all of your favorite sources for that topic. Channels chooses selected news companies that you can subscribe to. Device help is a feed that gives you device tips. Finally, there is custom, which allows you to choose a specific RSS feed or webpage.

5. Once you have chosen your subscriptions, you will be taken back to the main menu where you can select ‘Done.’

II. Using the App

1. The second way to access this app, is through the app drawer under ‘News.’

2. When you select news you will see a green arrow in the top right corner, which allows you to add a new feed.

3. You will see a list of subscriptions underneath, which will be blank until you add new feeds.

4. The options for new feeds are the same as part one (bundles, channels, etc.).

5. Underneath subscriptions you will see ‘Home Screen News Widgets,’ which tells you the different news widgets you have set up, if any.

III. Extra Information

1. To unsubscribe from a feed, long press the feed name in the subscription list. A menu will pop up with the option to unsubscribe.

2. If you are using the widget, clicking on the widget box will allow you to see the articles in list view, instead of scrolling through them.

3. There is an icon underneath each news story in the widget, which allows you to find the story on the web, and another icon that allows you to share a story.

There are times when you’ll need to rush your Android device for a problem to the service center and if [...]

There are times when you’ll need to rush your Android device for a problem to the service center and if you are rooted or running a custom ROM, the service center may not like what you have done with your device and void your warranty. This post shows you how to unroot and go back to stock for just those situations. Read on to know how.

I. Before You Begin

Since you will be flashing a stock ROM, this will erase all the data on your device. So make sure a make backup of your apps, documents and any other data if you feel is important (both on the phone and the SD card).

II. Necessary Files

sgt10.1_root_unroot.zip file.

III. Unrooting the WiFi-only Galaxy Tab 10.1

1. Power down your device.

2. Put the device into Download Mode. To do this, press Volume Down + Power simultaneously when the device is powered off until you see the Samsung logo. Once you see the logo, let go of the Power button and only hold down the Volume Down button until you get the screen where you can choose either Download Mode or Recovery Mode. Use the Volume Down button to highlight the green Android logo and select it by pressing the Volume Up button. Press Volume Up again to bypass the Warning screen.

3. Extract sgt10.1_root_unroot.zip you downloaded above to a folder on your desktop.

4. In the extracted folder, you should find a zip file called ODIN3_v1.85.zip; extract from this zip to the same folder and double-click Odin3_v1.85.exe to run the Odin application.

5. Click on PDA button, locate P7510XABKMP_P7510UEKMP_HOME.tar from the folder you extracted above and select it to load it on to Odin.

6. Make sure that the Re-Partition tickbox is unchecked! This is very important if you don’t want to brick your device!

7. Connect your device. ID:COM should now light up yellow signifying that Odin has recognized the device.

8. Make sure that your Odin looks like in the picture below (click on it to enlarge) and then click on Start.

9. Your device should reboot after the process is complete.

You should now be holding a WiFi-only Galaxy Tab 10.1 that is completely stock and service center friendly!!

All credit goes to s0ckm0nk3y on AC Syndicate for the stock ROM!!
