HTC Desire to hit AT&T by June? HTC Legend to hit Sprint?

So according to a connect for BGR, the new HTC Desire is reportedly going to make it’s way to the States by way of AT&T. Also, the HTC Desire will keep it’s name AND Sense UI which is kinda a big deal.

The connect says it should be landing on AT&T sometime in May or June.

Another interesting note is that the connect also says that the Nexus One will have an AT&T 3G version coming out around the same time as well. This is interesting because of how similar the two devices are (minus a few details, the biggest being Sense UI). So if you had a choice between the exact same phone with Sense or without, which would you choose?
But then again, with Sense UI already working well on the Nexus One, guess there is even less difference between the two devices.

The connect also let slip that the HTC Legend will be coming to Sprint as the HTC Hero2. No idea on timeframe on this one.

Good Android phones cometh, people.

AT&T Getting Some Android Love, Finally

So it turns out AT&T isn’t shunning Android after all. They have just officially announced that they will be carrying the new Motorola Backflip for $100 after mail-in rebate for new customers. The Backflip is a Blur based Android device (similar to the CLIQ), with a unique opening design; the screen is on the back side, hence back flip.

Strange, right? But not a bad concept I guess, it’s a struggle to be different in form factor nowadays so kudos to them for trying, at least.

The phone’s specs are as follows:

528mhz Processor
256Mbs of RAM
5.0MP Camera with Flash
Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS
3.1″ capacitive touchscreen
QWERTY Keyboard
Android 1.6 (upgradeable to 2.1 according to Motorola’s site)

So not the most feature rich device, but a nice first Android phone for AT&T’s portfolio.

But that’s not the only announcement regarding Android AT&T made, they also said that they will be getting 4 more Android devices in the first half of 2010. These devices will be coming from 3 manufacturers; Dell (pretty sure you can bet it’ll be the Dell Mini 5/Streak), HTC, and Motorola. They didn’t report on how many from each, but I’d guess 1 Dell, 2 HTC’s and 1 Motorola judging by the companies’ recent output of Android devices. But rejoice AT&T users, Android cometh.

Sony Ericsson X10 Definitely Hitting AT&T?

So according to BGR (and an AT&T source there), the Sony Xperia X10 will definitely be hitting AT&T. The phone will be available with a 2 year contract as soon as April-May and the price is expected to be $199 or less. AT&T users excited much for a feature Android phone? Or more excited about the Dell Mini 5?

And also, does this mean no X10 on T-Mobile? Or will they release it on AT&T and then the unlocked version will have T-Mobile 3G? That would be smart of them…

Ok so Apple made their big announcement today about the Apple iPad (lame name I know, but eh what can you do).

480p Composite OUT

Pricing:

$499 for the 16GB Wifi Only Model

Adding 3G to any of the models adds $130.

The Wifi Models will be available in about 60 days.
3G Models will be available in about 90 days.

3G Plans:

AT&T is offering a special 3G plans for the iPad:

250MBs for $14.99/month
Unlimited Data for $29.99/month

The real interesting thing about it is the fact that these 3G plans carrier no contractual obligations. Sign up on the iPad over Wifi and cancel on the iPad over Wifi at any time.

Points of Interest:

No Contract and No Contract Data plans from AT&T
iPhone OS
Can run all current iPhone apps (either in a Window or with stretched double pixel viewing)
There will be Wifi and 3G versions of all sizes (for a price increase)
The 3G units are completely unlocked, use them on any GSM carrier you wish (but they use a new MicroSIM that noone yet carriers…)
No word on making a CDMA version yet, sorry Verizon. (Let me know if you hear otherwise)

What do you guys think? Anyone like it? Anyone who doesn’t have an iPhone want one of these instead? Anyone with an iPhone see a point in getting what is essentially a bigger iPhone?

Curious about the 3G frequencies myself, any 1700mhz in it by chance? This way T-Mobile users can use it as well and it’s not just an AT&T only device by technical specs as opposed to actual exclusivity deal?

Sony Xperia X10 will Be Available in the UK Next Month

So the Sony Xperia X10 (the next snapdragon Android device) is arriving in the UK next month on February 19th. And in Sony fashion, it’s ridiculously priced; the Euro version goes for 885 USD. I’d assume the US version will be a little bit less (my guess is closer to $700-$800), but still no release date for the States.

So between the Nexus One and the X10, which would you rather go for? And then knowing that someone will, in all likelihood, rip the Timescape UI off the Sony and put it on other phones once it is released…. hmmm

Google’s Nexus One Press Event Recap

Google unveiled the Nexus One today and called it the “Next Evolution of Android”. Here’s a quick recap of what they went over.

1. Nexus One is a close collaboration between Google and HTC
2. It is the most advanced hardware HTC has put in a device yet (Peter Chou’s words): with it’s 3.7 AMOLED touchscreen, 1GHz processor, etc.
3. Google Earth for Android has just been unveiled.

It’s not all about hardware, Nexus One has new software too:
1. All of the Droid’s apps are there
2. Android 2.1
3. 5 homescreens instead of 3
4. News and Location based Weather Widgets
5. Live/Animated Wallpapers that respond to touch
6. New launcher menu, no pulling up to open anymore
7. New Photo Album, photos float on a surface
8. Search by Voice and Voice Navigation are built in
9. Voice enabled ALL texts fields on the device, so you can talk instead of type

Purchasing the Device:
1. Simple Google Web Store for you to purchase the phone without a contract or with one from a partner.
2. You can buy the phone with T-Mobile USA today.
3. They plan to add more devices to their web store (Motorola was mentioned).
4. Adding more countries to the webstore as well.
5. The Store has a live demo of the phone that you can play with.
6. You need a Google account and a Google checkout account.

Verizon and Vodafone will jump on board with the Nexus One in Spring 2010. So you can purchase it with a contract from either of those companies then.

So the only thing that truly impresses me is the business model for the phone; selling it from Google and you can choose your carrier…

So we thought it would be available on multiple carriers at first. Then they idea died because of the spec sheet only showing T-Mobile 3G, but now according to Google it will be available on T-Mobile, Verizon and Vodafone by Spring 2010. Interesting indeed. Now the question is, if you order the phone from Google and want Verizon do they send you a CDMA version or is it a dual GSM CDMA phone? Curiouser and curiouser…

Not bad all in all, what do you guys think?

Nexus One Full Specs Revealed. T-Mobile 3G, no AT&T 3G?

Someone has let out the full spec sheet of the Google Nexus One:

Most of this we were already aware of but take a close look at the 3G frequencies… don’t see it?

Well it says UMTS bands 1/4/8 or in other words, Band I, Band IV, and Band VIII.
Well, Band I of UMTS is 2100mhz and Band VIII is 900mhz. These are pretty standard in any HTC device, but Band IV is the interesting one to have in there. Why? Well, Band IV is 1700mhz. And unlike the other two that have multiple carriers that use them, 1700mhz is ONLY used by one company in the world; T-Mobile USA. (Oh, and the new Wind Mobile in Canada that just launched…)

Now, who knows how this will end up but as it stands now, the Nexus One will have T-Mobile USA 3G built in and will NOT support AT&T 3G.
Wonder why? Anyone?

PS Another interesting feature I just noticed is N AND A Wireless support under WiFi on the spec sheet. They want to make sure you can access any WiFi hotspot around, eh?

FCC Clears Xperia X10 in Both T-Mobile US 3G and AT&T US 3G

Apparently, over the weekend Sony got FCC approval for not only an AT&T 3G Xperia X10, but also a T-Mobile 3G Xperia X10.

So this means those of us in the States can choose between T-Mobile or AT&T when we buy the phone without a contract from Sony directly.

This is a first for us here in the US! This would be the first time any phone manufacturer made an AT&T AND a T-Mobile version of an unlocked device.

Still not sure why they don’t just put both into one phone though (save themselves from having to make two separate models)… anyone understand enough about manufacturing to elaborate?

HTC Touch HD2 Getting Picked Up by A US Carrier in Early 2010

HTC Leo

HTC has announced the a “US Carrier” is picking up the Touch HD2 (Leo) in early 2010. In the meantime, you could always buy the European Version and just not have 3G.. as with any GSM phone.

Sadly I can already assume that by the time the HD2 “comes to the States” there will be a new, better HTC phone to drool over.

Why can’t they just put Pentaband 3G in all of their phones and let us by them directly??

AT&T Finally Releasing the Pure (Diamond2) and Tilt2 (Pro2)

ATT Pure and Tilt2

So T-Mobile has had the Pro2 for a bit now, but finally AT&T has picked up the device and also the keyboard-less counterpart the Diamond2. They will be called the Tilt2 (Pro2) and the Pure (Diamond2) and while the Pro2 is still HTC’s best keyboarded Windows Mobile device out, the Diamond2 might be a little too late for people who don’t need the keyboard so much. The reason being that the HTC Touch HD2 was announced recently and is scheduled for release soon in Europe, and it packs a much larger screen, better TouchFlo, more RAM, and an almost twice as fast processor!

AT&T better hope they can sell a bunch of the Diamond2’s before some company in the States calls HTC and tells them they are picking up the HD2 for sale here in the US…

Anyone have AT&T and a WinMo fan?
